I'm not aware of any way for

I'm not aware of any way for you to connect your XBOX 360 directly to a PC in order to hit the web, as the PC won't assign an IP address to your XBOX.

You need to connect the 360 your home network by plugging it into your router, or an ethernet switch that is connected to your router.

the PC won't assign an IP

the PC won't assign an IP address to your XBOX

Actually, it's very possible to do this. You need a second network interface in your PC (a USB-ethernet one will work), a crossover ethernet cable (an XBox System Link cable will do), and Internet Connection Sharing. Your XBox will receive an IP address from the PC, most likely 192.168.0.2. My XBox is connected to my HTPC this way.

Note: In order to use a tunneling application such as XBConnect or Kai Xlink (to play on the internet for free), a USB-ethernet adapter will not work; an actual PCI ethernet adapter (or an onboard one) is necessary.

Well... Maybe I should have

Well... Maybe I should have said "not aware of any easy way to do this." However, Yog is correct, and his suggestion certainly will work.

Catch22, if you don't know what a crossover cable is, or think tunneling has something to do with coal mining, the easiest approach is the direct router connection. At least now you have two disctinct ways to go. Great advice Yog!

Thanks to Yog n Matt for the advice.been onto xbox - microsoft and netgear all are having trouble helping me out.Think i'll go with the easy option and get a 10m ethernet cable from xbox, that should reach downstairs" and go live that way. Thanks again Catch22

How is your computer in that

How is your computer in that room connected to your router? Wireless, or wired?

If wired, then you already have a cable going back to the router. What you need to purchase is an Ethernet switch. Plug your computer and Xbox into the switch, and the switch into the cable that was connected to the PC.

My xbox and pc are both

My xbox and pc are both upstairs my router is downstairs,my pc is connected to the router by a 54 mbps wireless usb 2.0 adapter.I think all i need to do now is run a ethernet cable from my xbox to the back of the router downstairs, and that should do it without to many complications.

I'm not sure which time zone

I'm not sure which time zone you're in (to make it before they close), but CompUSA has the ZyXel P-330W on sale for $20 after rebates (ends today). The ZyXel is a router that can be easily converted to a wireless ethernet bridge (plug your XBox into the bridge, and the XBox is now wireless).
