Green ONKYO / Fios

Onkyo says it Fios Fios says its Onkyo.   I've got a TX-RS606 receiver and Verizon Fios QIP7216

When connecting directly from the Fios to TV works fine.  When I connect through the Receiver, The TV works for about 20 seconds and then the Screen goes Completely Green.  blah blah about HDCP compliance.. help!

I have the exact same problem

I have the exact same problem: HD QIP 71001 and TX-SR606. Someone screwed up!

I found the solution but didn

I found the solution but didn't post it (my bad). It will cost a few bucks but it works. Connect the HD QIP 7001 to the Receiver using component cables and a fiber optic cable for the sound. anywhere from $50 to $100. As it was explained to me. There is circuitry in the HDMI world to prevent recording shows more then once. No one at ONKYO or Verizon had the answer. The 1st guy told me to return the receiver but when the second one did the same thing I figured it wasn't a coincidence. Verizon was just nasty.

Great! :) Thank you for this

Great! :) Thank you for this solution. It works for me too. I verified it with a tech at Onkyo who actually was pretty cool and said that lots of HD/DVR/Cable boxes do funny things to the hdmi output (at least he did not deny the problem). Also he said I should not see any picture degradation or other other performance issue going with the "component" cables vs. HDMI (i wonder if this is true).

I had an optical digital audio cable hanging around and he showed me how to program the SR606 to associate the OPT1 signal with the component input for SAT/CBL.

It still seems odd to me though that if the TV can display what the HD/DVR/Cable box puts out that the Onkyo receiver could not pass it through...

I had Fios installed 1/21/09

I had Fios installed 1/21/09 with Motorola QPI 7100 HD Box and had the exact same problem when connecting HDMI via a Yamaha AV Home theater receiver to a Toshiba 1080p LCD. I get audio and video but after 10-25 seconds the video turns to a total green screen. The Verizon premier 24 x 7 tech support is clueless and they have no depth to their tech support. They are staffed by entry level minions that read responses out of their play book and have no one to whom they can escalate problems. When I attempted to go to their headquarters building in Everett WA to talk to someone higher up, security at the front desk refused to let me talk to anyone and threatened to call the police unless I left the building. With customer support like that who needs enemies? Let me know if you ever get the HDMI approach to work?

Take a look at the next

Take a look at the next couple of posts..... If you put component cables from the box to the receiver and a digital audio connection it will work fine. I do have another problem. When I crank up the volume sometimes the receiver will just shut off.... it seems hot. I let it sit and it works fine.

Might be a short somewhere who knows?

I had a similar problem with

I had a similar problem with the QIP 7216 1, and it was solved when Verizon sent me out a QIP 6416-2 due to an unrelated problem. It may just be that the 6416 has a more recent firmware load. I detailed my experiences here: http://www.ninjax.net/blog/?p=24

How do you go about getting

How do you go about getting verizon to send you a new box?

That's the tricky part - I

That's the tricky part - I kind of lucked out. In my case, I got home one day and the box wasn't working, so I called up Verizon and they ran some diagnostics. The technician said he could see the box, but it was not responding to his tests, so he sent me out the 6416. It turns out that the box wasn't working because a Cox technician disconnected my coax connection to Verizon in a utility closet (I live in a condo). I think the Verizon tech could still 'see' the box even though the coax was out, because my broadband is coming in over my phone line via VDSL (a common configuration with condo complexes).

The

The
HDMI standard requires some interaction with the connected devices. I suspect that this conversation is getting corrupted when the connection "passes through" the receiver. I will investigate this a bit more, but this type of behavior is not unexpected. The initial release was designed to support point to point connections and with the configuration described, there is a third device involved which makes the point to point a bit odd. In the short term, use the work-around by connecting the component cables and digital audio. The component signal will be as good as HDMI.

Same problem, same solution

Same problem, same solution with a QIP 7200. Verizon tech support was clueless, but he did suggest that I Google the problem, which got me here, so I guess he helped in a roundabout way.

Had same problem (picture for

Had same problem (picture for 20 seconds, then green screen) with my Verizon Oios Motorola QIP 7100 set top box and Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver. Onkyo tech rep said to run HDMI cable from set top box into DVD input on receiver, then from receiver HDMI output to TV (Sony 52V510). Works fine. Reassign DVD to CAB/SAT, and reassign CAB/SAT to DVD. DVD works fine.

Just switched from Comcast to

Just switched from Comcast to FIOS yesterday. I ran into the green screen issue. This was working fine with the Comcast box (DCH3200), but not with the Verizon box (QIP7100). Trying to run HDMI through Yamaha RX-V863. I hope this is fixed with a firmware update, but will try some work arounds for now...

You are going to need to connect your Fios box to your recevier via component cables.  What brand TV do you have?  Samsung?
