The tv was working fine and then we went to turn it on and the screen turns on to a white screen with wigglely lines thru it and then the tv powers itself off. Any ideas what could be wrong?
I also own a Philips Magnavox manufactured in September 2000 and having the same problem. It has a light colored screen with lines about 1 inch apart and no sound. Mine powers off in about 5 seconds. It is a 27" so can probably be replaced with a slight upgrade for about $200. Has anyone experienced this problem and had it repaired? Thanks.
I found this exact topic on another forum and here's what they did to repair it:
On the CRT circuit board(picture tube), you will find R3340, which is a 10 ohm 1/3w resistor. The location of the resistor is printed on the bottom of the ckt board. It is burned open, replace with a 10 ohm 1/2w resistor. This will solve your problem. The original resistor was sized too small, should have been a 1/2 watt. This resistor is mounted standing up on ends. Mount the replacement resistor the same way. You can probably get the resistor at your local Radio Shack. You will probably have to buy a package of 5, but what the hey . . . they are cheap.
Be careful and don't get the circuit trace too hot and damage the circuit trace. (it's very small)
Good luck.

I hope that works for you as it seemed to help the folks on the other forum.
I own a philip magnovox 50 inch projection televison and I fell asleep with it on and when I woke up at 3 am the power was on but there is no sound and no picture. Can anyone tell me anything about that. Why it happened and how to fix it.
i had the same thing happen to the same tv. They tell me that it was struck by lightning. Both boards had to be replaced. My model number is 9P5040C104. what model do you have? Can be costly, but worth saving the TV. About $750 to repair.
My philip 50 inch is model number 9P5043C101. There was no storm here so I know it was not lightning. Also I had my DVD player and satelite hooked up to it and it is okay. Not to mention I only paid $600 for my television, so I don't know if it really is worth saving. However I have not priced a new philip but have priced others. I would however like to fix this one.
I became obsessed with getting mine fixed. I paid $2500 for it in 2001 for the Raven Superbowl. I could not bring myself to just junk it. I have since bought a new HD Big Screen, but now I have one in my football room and my family room. I had all my stuff hooked up to it also...but I could see the capacitors and resistors were fried. good luck with your unit. This really stinks when this happens.
I have a philips hd tv, flat screen, not flat panel, tv, the tv screen got very pink, then it lost all picture and now is blue with thin pink lines that are horizontal but not level, slanted. and none and you can't change the channel, it is not showing a picture and the only sound is white noise. What is it?
