Mitsubishi Rear Proj CRT - Red Convergence is Way Off

We turned on our three-year-old Mitsubishi WS-55511 tonight, and the red convergence is three-four inches to the right of the green and blue, even with the factory default convergence settings.

When I try to adjust the convergence, it works on some areas of the screen. But in other areas, the red lines are crooked and distored, and can't be brought into line.

The problem appears in the TV's own on-screen displays, so I'm sure the problem is in the TV, not in my cable box or DVD player.

Has anyone else seen a problem like this? Do I need professional service? Is this repairable?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

It's reparable, but the convergence output will probably need to be replaced. You'll need to contact an authorized Mitsubishi repair center for assistance.

I called a repair center, as you suggested. The repairman took the guts of the TV back to his shop. A day later, he called and said that the "purity convergent circuit" needed replacement. The total charge will be about $470 (about $200 parts, and $270 labor). He expects to bring it back in a week or so.

Thanks again for your help.
