I'm getting a blurry reddish picture. Have had the set for 4 years and through some research it sounds like the convergence ic's are shot. Is this correct and should I be looking for another possible cause of this problem? Also can anyone email a service manual for this? Thanks
Replaced the convergence ic's and adjusted the picture afterwards. Tv back to normal. Wasn't even that tough of a job. Took about an hour and a half even with it being my first time soldering small electrical circuits.
Great news man. Thanks for the feedback!
I asked you for a model number, the JVC Tru flat is a style not a model. You also posted in the middle of the wrong thread so you were moved to a JVC post.
Sorry about that,Iam working on the road and trying to get the information second hand. Bare with me.

alnp thanks hope I find the problem can I buy resistors at radioshack
ok thanks alpn know here is my question I found the resister which are bad can I get this at radio shack let me give you and example of one them 851 on the board is bad its a 2W 220ohms can I get a 220ohm 1/2w 5% carbon film resistor from radio shack I need all this from the board 842,843,847 thanks for your help
do not use carbon use metal film or flameproof or metal oxide
2w means 2 watts
1w means 1 watt
OMR means metal oxide film
MFR means metal film
J means 5% tolerance (1% is ok)
for example search radio shack or ebay (include store inventory) etc.. for
2w 220 ohm resistor or
1w 2.2 ohm resistor
ok fellas I replace all the reisitor that where bad I plug all the wires to the convergence board, I plug in the tv and hear like thumping noise off on off on, but when I unplug the convergence board and plug in the tv set again the tv comes on fine exept the 3d problem occurs, what can be causing this problem model 48wp74 convergence board ssb-5051a-m2, I also went to a mom and pop shop to get the same resistor not giving up yet I would say its kind of fun
alnp I was doing some reading and also came up with this parts from the convergence board part number c3852A 28,an7805 214106a, a7805f 220k 558a this guys are 3 pin positive output voltage regulator I think this is my problem because when I dont plug the wire which follows the printed circuit to this guys tv turns on when I connect this plug it makes a thumping sound give me your opinion doc. I will get this at the same store where I bought the resistors monday thanks.......
I don't see your post listing the set's original problem, have you replaced conv ic's? If not, desolder them from pcb, (briefly) see if set will then power up. You may have to re-check resistors you replaced in case shorted conv ic's blew them.
ok will do the process thanks doc. also going to replace the ic again doc could it be that maybe one of the pins of the ic's was not solder properly and cause the tv to make poping sounds from the speakers thanks will stil fight till the end thanks again
yes check solder joints

hey doc have a question my friend has a panasonic hdtv 50inch this tv turns on good but then turns off by itself after 10minutes what can be causing this problem
hey doc here goes the model of the tv PT-53TW53 panasonic do you have the schematics for this set im begining to like this doc... about my jvc im waiting for a pair of new stk chips. Doc the problem with my friends panasonic it turns on fine but ten minutes later it turns off......thanks for the support
hey doc, I have bad news, I messed up the board by removing some of the traces on the board, darn however I have another tv which I did had success before this jvc one, I thought I was a pro by doing it fast. A quick question doc can I use a jumper wires to go over the missing traces, im going to experiment on this tv now, I want to learn, the board is ssb-5051a-m2 have you had success on some boards with this kind of problem doc thanks
Yes, use a insulated jumper wire, not a problem. Your iron was too hot, or you held it on too long.
D.O.C I think is time to let my jvc rest I couldnt get the board to work, doc are you willing to try it I have a new set of stk chips
serge don't try to solder a jumper wire mid-trace, figure out which 2 components the trace went between and add the jumper wire from solder point to point.
hey doc what kind of wire I went to frys electronics and they had
GC Thorsen L3-612 100FT Magnet Wire: Insulated 24 Gauge For Winding Coils and Transformers
is this any good
well doc, I tried again I solder new stk chips replace every resiter with correct watts and ohms also use the jumper method to replace copper traces that came off when, I was trying to remove the old stk chips. The situation know is that I can align the blue crosses vertical, but cant move the blue corsses horizontal. Also the RED cross does not appear at all when im in the convergence mode any ideas
double check the broken traces make sure yo did not forget one.or you might have a bad pico or two?
ok larry dillon I will check again thanks for the reply
larry dillon I was reading online that I will find pico fuses on the G board or where can, I find these PICO fuses there not on the convergence board right beacuse I changed every resistor on the board "so close"
Serge if you search the parts list pdf for fuse it may show the board locations, I don't have that parts list so I can't try it.
You may still have trouble with the traces, some of those look very small. Maybe this pic will show big enough to see the trace detail.

I just received my convergence chips in the mail, and replaced them. The problem is when I turn the T.V on, I get a poping sound from the speakers. It's a ticking noise then the poping from the speakers. Then it turns off.
you need to make sure and double check the soldering on the chips make sure none are shorted over to other pins best thing to do is to use a toothpick make sure you can slide the end of it between each pin if you still have an issue start a trouble/ repair ticket at tvrepairkits.com/helpdesk thanks.

I rechecked all solder joints, and found that one of them was a cold joint. Tried resoldering it and I think I may have missed up a lead. It's the Third pin. The problem is that I see a lead going to all pins except that pin. These is the same on both chips. When trying to solder the cold jiont, a shiny round piece came off board, from around the the #3 pin. What should I do know? I found some info suggesting scrapping the surface of the board unit I reach the lead and solder back. The only thing is that I don't see a lead running to that pin.
