I have a Mitsubishi VS-5042 50" rear projection that is about 10 years old with low to moderate use. Of late the picture is not as crisp and clear. My kids call it "kinda fuzzy." Especially print or lettering. A bit "out of focus" if you will. Attempts via the color adjustment and color "Alignment" don't seem to help. Any ideas?
If you cannot adjust the red blue and green lines and the picture looks like a 3-D picture, you probably have whats known as a convergence problem. There are two convergence IC's that need replacement in these types of TV sets. If you have soldering and printed circuit board experience, you should be able to change these IC;s your self. if you do not, it will cost you about 25o to 350 to have a pro come in and do this repair. You also probably need a good cleaning of the mirrors and the three color lenses. Good Luck.
Larry, thanks! The Red/Green lines CAN be adjusted but you're right .. it's sorta that 3D look especially with print and close-ups. Do you how I could check the IC's, locate new IC's and perhaps secure a schematic? (I can do this myself ...)
I do not still have this service manual. You can get one from HERE You will need to locate the IC's up against and mount to a large heat sink. They will be about 2" by 3". they are black in color, and have the letters STK on them with numbers following. You can go to mcmelectronics.com, and enter the stk number in the search box. Good Luck
