Sony T.V. 6 and 7 blinks KV-40XBR800

Hello, please help. My sony xbr started blinking 6 and 7 blinks in the standby mode. If you unplug it for 24 hrs. it usually works fine. I believe this is something overheating. I can read schematics and work with solid state in my job. I need help narrowing down the problem or I am fine with changing the whole board if this is easier. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Six blinks - No Horizontal (H
  • Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
  • Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

  • Something in the horizontal circuit is going bad or starting to go bad.  Also check for bad solder connections all around the high voltage transformer.  Good Luck, and let us know what you find.

  •  Thanks Larry,

Could you tell me which board has the horizontal circuit. Also is there a part # on the high voltage x-former.

    Thanks again.

I just had the same problem

I just had the same problem with my 40XBR800. When you hit the power button, you'd hear a click, and then the led would flash 6 times. After some reseach, I purchased two of the jungle IC's with sockets off ebay and replaced them. The job requires pulling of a bunch of connectors to get the board out. I also had to remove the small board plugged into the back of the tube, since the flyback transformer lead (red) was soldered right to that board. I left the TV unplugged for a day before doing any work to let any high voltage charge disapate. I also aligator clipped a screwdriver to ground and stuck it under the tube connection to kill the charge, but it didn't make any sound so I think it was already discharged. Desoldering the old chips required some skill to get them out. I used a solder sucker first and then some copper wick to clean the pads better. The new chips came with sockets, so I just resoldered the sockets in place and then plugged the chips in. The TV powered right up! My son was hoping it wouldn't so we could get a new LCD 3D one :) Search MCZ3001D to find the chips (jungle IC on the "D" board)
