Hello all! I recently picked up a broken WS-A65, owner said it may be the IC's but I've since taken it home and found its flashing a code 23, so far I've only checked all the fuses on the three boards and all are fine, the red projector had leaked a small amount of coolant out on the signal board about the size of a quarter but once cleaned off no damage could be found.
Any ideas?
I do have the FSM as well but dont see the problem in it.
Even a small amount of coolant can cause damage to anothr part of the set, what are the symptoms or what is the problem the set is having?
Thanks so much for taking the time to get back to me Larry, from the browsing I've done on this site so far you're nothing short of a miracle for most tv owners :)
When I hit the power button the green light turns on, then the set clicks and turns off. Sometimes there's a crackling noise coming from the tubes when the set has been unplugged for a few hours.
That noise is obably normal, it is static electicity it sound like, you are gong to need to turn the board over where the liquid was and see if there is any burning or damage on the undersid eof the Printed circuit board. then you will ned to see what circuit the spill was in and check the major componets. the code 23 is loss of horizontal deflection so you could have a bad high voltage regulation circuit.you will need to troubleshoot the high voltage circuit so this is very dangrous for a non tech to do.
I'll have my father look it over he's been a commercial electrician most of his life, now working for the local power company. Any tips on what to look over as far as the HV circuit goes? I have a meter and soldering irons and all that as well. Ive noticed you need the manual sometimes would you like a copy of it?
No burning or heat signs btw, the spot must have been pretty recent since it didn't eat anything up on the board.
Is it possible that the small spill was unrelated to the problem with the HV circuit? I know the tv was moved shortly after it failed and have been told by a few sources that climate change and movement will cause these sets to leak a little sometimes.
Sorry for so many posts, I just want to provide you as much information as I can. Here are two pictures of where the spot was on the signal board.

Any tips on what to look over as far as the HV circuit goes? I dont really know where to start. I know that the horizontal output and regulator are on the center board but I dont know how to test them.
this is a dangerous circuit to be mesing with my friend. you will need to check thcomponents in the horizontal sweep as well a the hoizontle regulation circuit. you may be better off by contacting ptscorp.com and calling them to see what thy would charge you to rework the board. sorry this circuit is not as cut and dry as to say where the problem is. you need to know how to tst and chek solid state omponenets with an ohm metter
I already discharged the unit last night, are there any common failure points for these sorts of tvs? I guess I'll start checking everything in the hv/deflection circuit then.
no there are no common falures as I am aware of.
I'll keep you updated on what I find, thanks for your help so far :)
called TV repair guy, he came and we've been at it for 2 days so far. Replaced Vertical IC, both convergence ic's error 23 went away, now error 22. Any ideas?
The tubes also seem to make a chirping noise now, always 2 or 3 times.
