I can't get Windows Movie Maker to capture my digital video from my palmcorder

I have a Panasonic DV Camcorder that's less than a year old.

I launched Windows Movie Maker - it recognizes the device is connected to the PC... it gives me the option to 'start capture' but then nothing is recorded, when I view the playback option on the PC.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong - is it the setting on the CAMERA that's messing it up? Do I set the camera to 'VCR' mode, and set it to playback, and THEN tell Movie Maker to capture? I'm been trying that, but it doesn't work... help!?

Thanks

The camera should be put in

The camera should be put in playback mode. When you click on play in MovieMaker, it should trigger the play button on the camcorder and the picture should show up on the computer.

If that doesn't work, make sure that if you unplug it from the computer and just try to play it back on the camcorder itself, that works. If it does, it's the same process when you connect it to the computer.
