Larry, I have a MAGNAVOX MOD. NO 60P8241. Blinks 4 times, thinking maybe conv. chips. Set chirps 16 times, back off. Havent checked voltges on horiz.out . But hoping somebody could help on the blinking light codes, I have no schematic. Thanks, [email protected]
Sound like convergence IC's or perhaps a switch mode power supply problem.
Larry,
Turned out to be the transformer, Model was 60P8241. Unsoldered pin 1 of transformer and voltage come up, chirping stopped. Thanks again. [email protected]
So did the trasformer fix it ? - which one Flyback or switch mode

It, should be high voltage transf. Have not order it yet. Waiting for more parts to order. Am sure its the right way to go on this dog. Just hoping something after that didnt cause it to go in the first place! Will let u know, soon. [email protected]
Just because you disconnected the pin one does not mean that this transformer is bad. It very well could be but the way you diagnosed it is a bit riskey on assuming it is bad. It could be a simple horizontal output transistor that is loading down the power supply, or perhaps a secondary winding is shorted or one of it's associated components. If it is the problem then the only real way to tell would be to ring out the transformer with a transformer tester or replace it. I would certainly get the service manual and check the components in that circuit.
I did not want to say that, but it may not be the transformer at all, and most likley is not. Many secondary voltages come off of the flyback, and if any one of these power sources have been shorted by something (like the convergence ic's) it will do the same thing that you are saying. Don't assume by removing pin 1 and seeing the symptom change, you found your problem, you need to understand why removing pin 1 kept it from chirping.
Hello--My mother bought a used philps magnavox model number 60P8241 chasis number PTV910. At first it would come on for about 20 mins then turn off and you turn it back on, 5 mins later it shut back down, you turn it back on and it turn off in 10 secs and not come back on. Now you turn it on, it goes off, 17 mins, while it is on there is a large black line on left portion of screen from top to bottom and it don't turn back on when it shuts down. I was told maybe it was the 10ohm resister that was put in the tv was only a 1/3w, so I went and got the 10 ohm 1/2w and I cannot find the one on the tv to replace it. Can you help? And for a second opionion, do you think that is what is causing the problem? My mom don't have the money to have it worked on, she really didn't have the money for the tv. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, Roberta
