32" RCA nothing but squeal. I am opening it up. Need help identifying/finding components.

32" RCA

Kids playing playstation... TV went out.... and now it only whistle/whines/squeals. Wont turn on. I have read posts and see that it could be the horizontal output transistor or the flyback transformer or a capacitor on one of the power feeds, along with many other posibilities.

I read in a post for a 36" tv,  to replace Q14401 and to resolder L14401.  I also read in the same topic to remove coil L4101, scrape off a little of the enamel that is still on the ends and reinstall the coil.

Can I find an exploded view somewhere? not likely. Can someone point me in which area of the TV I would find these points. I just opened it up and may find them yet.....Not sure though if it would be the same numbers as on my 32".

I am an electrician that works with some electronics. Very minimal. So I have an idea how to trace and check much of the circuitry. I have worked on satelite receivers in the past as well.I would attempt this even if I didn't though. Thats just the way I am.

I truly appreciate any help, suggestions and guidance,

Brad

Will hopefully look at it tonight(Thursday). That is an excellent reply to my question and exactly the help I need to get started. I did not think i would get that good of a reply. Awesome picture and description. Thank you for the link/phone number for parts too.

Thank you, i will post back when I know more.

I am going to replace the

I am going to replace the flyback and HOT. I was hoping someone had a link or a bit of a breakdown on how to do the job. Not each and every step, just a little help.

What do you use to "glue" that one piece from the flyback onto the tube?

Do the leads simply pull out of the Flyback as I have read others do?

Going to buy a solder sucker. At present all I have is an electric soldering gun and I had a low wattage "pen or stick" style somewhere.

Which one of these is the better choice for working on TV's? I like the quick heat from the gun, but is that bad for this project?

I guess any other ideas or suggestions are of course welcome and appreciated. I have not metered/checked/ordered anything yet. Should I be checking any caps along the way?

Sorry for all the questions. I will be researching as much of this as I can on my own. It can take some time so i hoped some could be answered here. Don't want this TV sitting around collecting dust. Either I fix it soon or it goes.

Thank you all for your help,

Brad

Well....not much help other than what Dwray has offered. I tried a couple of other sites and some google searches for how to properly change these parts. no luck so I am ordering the parts right now....the flyback and the H.O.T. Parts will cost about $35 plus shipping. What have I got to lose? Gonna Git R Done!

Before you start changing

Before you start changing parts try resoldering all board connections for (hor out) flyback transformer and hor drive transformer.  Also look at board around vert output transformer for bad solder connections.

Bad solder connections is the most common fault on RCA chassis of all kinds.

The most likely (if it is bad connection) is the hor drive transformer.  That is located near the hor out transformer.  The bad connections on that transformer (remove and examine inside case as other poster suggested) are also very common.

Many times the bad connections are visible as a "volcano". The pin from the component sticks up through the solder and doesn't make a connection.  It looks like the crater of a volcano.

Changed parts, worked good

Changed parts, worked good for a couple of hours. now i just got 3 snaps(like a high voltage to ground) about 20-30 seconds apart. I ran over and unplugged it, now i guess i will have to open her up for round 2. Any help or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Got the new flyback

Got the new flyback transformer and Horizontal output transistor(HOT) replaced and all is GOOD. TV works again. I am so pumped that I fixed it.......and I am so grateful for the help and guidance I recieved.

I bought a new solder iron, solder, solder sucker, and some high voltage putty. I cut and spliced/soldered/taped the 3 wires from the flyback to the tv. MISTAKE. I should have removed the boot from the tube and not spliced that wire. I believe that is where the snapping/arcing - voltage leak was occuring. Go to my post/link below and check out some pictures and helpful info from Dwray to do this step correctly.

The solder sucker was invalueable. I could have used my old solder and solder gun, but I was saving so much money I wanted to make sure I had the correct tools for the job.

Hope this helps others as I could not have done this without others help.

I was watching my tv one

I was watching my tv one night and fell asleep. When I woke the tvs power light was on but the tv was not. I turned it off and unpluged it for hours. When I pluged the tv back up it started this whinding noise. The power light comes on and all you hear is that noise. My neighbor says it sounds like a high voltage leak. I know nothing about tvs but I was hoping I could fix this myself. Pictures and steps would be great! Thanks!!!
