little red dots

I recently hooked up my samsung dlp HD tv to the digital hd cable box using a new dvi-d cable. It did show a picture but the image was covered with tiny red dots. I have used component cables and the picture is perfect, problem is I want to connect a second monitor using the component cables to the same cable box, because the new monitor is not HDCP enabled. The cable box has only one output connection each for component and dvi-d. Any ideas? Thanks Dave

What resolution is your cable

What resolution is your cable box currently set to output?

good question. It is a digital hd box and the picture I get using the component cables from a local station that broadcasts in 1080i is perfect.

Once a few years ago I saw a similar problem with an LCD TV hooked up via DVI. I can't for the life of me remember what the issue is, but here's two suggestions.

First, change the cable box resolution to output at 720p, or 480p. If the problem goes away, you've learned that the TV doesn't like 1080i through the DVI input.

However, I'm more inclined to believe that the DVI cable you're using is bad. Try a new cable and see if the problem goes away.
