DVDs and CDs placed in the turntable (5 places) show up as loaded (lights are lit) but they don't seem to be spinning. Can't play or get menus on any disk in any slot. When last used it was fine but haven't used the unit in a while. There could have been thunder storms or power outages in the meantime. I tried unplugging the unit and replugging to reset it, but no luck. HELP
Can you verify that the disc is not spinning? Put your ear close to the machine and listen closely, or take the lid off of the player and watch closely as the disc is loaded.
I did put my ear up close to the unit, and couldn't hear any spinning noise.
There can be a few reasons why this happens. If you're not afraid to remove the top of the player (and your unit is no longer under warranty), look for something that looks like a cap at the top of the loading mech, and make sure it isn't stuck. It's this piece that applies enough pressure to the top of the disc that allows the spindle to rotate it. I've often found that somehow these get jammed, and don't properly rest on the top of the disc. Use your fingers to readjust it to the right spot.
If you can verify that the motor isn't even attempting to spin the disc, there's not much you can do about it since the actual issue gets really hard to diagnose (bad motor, etc.) The best you can do in this case is have it fixed.
mine does the same thing, i opened it up and found that it does not pick up the cd
