I haven't had the opportunity to evaluate either in person, but the general concesus on the web is that the Olevia is a great value. My initial reaction would be to lean toward Vizio based on what I've seen from them in the past, but every TV should be evaluated for their own merits. Did you look at them in person? What was your impression of the image on either?
My first thought also-Been looking for some price drop - Quick look across the web gave me a pretty close match up. BOSCOVS this week $649. Looks really great now in my den. Only Headache (THE MANUAL IS ON A DISK) but for the value , what a deal i got!! When PC world reviwed it ,it listed at $1499.
In a service perspective, and only my opinion, I would not touch neither of them with a 10 foot pole. After 18 to 20 months, the set breaks down, there is no local support for most of these off brands, and getting parts is also a hassle. Yes you can contact the company and they tell you most of the time to ship the set to them. This will cost you a pretty penny both ways. I know of two different people who purchased the Olevia 37" for about 900 bucks or so, and the 32" for around 500 or so. BOTH sets, after less then 2 years broke down. Nether person could get someone local to service the TV set. I attempted to service them but ran into troubles getting service manuals and parts. The owner of the 37" sent the set into the service dept and cost him about 500 bucks to repair and to pay for shipping both ways. The set broke down again six months later, and was dumped. The other person dumped their set and bought a name brand. With these sets, I would recommend to spend a little more for a name brand, and or an extended warranty.
