Mitsu WT-42413 conv ics leaking oil?

After reading many posts the problem I am having is a bit different.

Started with taking 10 power ons to turn on tv. Worked ok after each time. Then no turn on, code 22. Can hear the relay click and hi pitch, then power down. I have svc manual. Upon removing chassis, i saw that oil had dripped from chassis(not much), and traced it the 2 STK394 250's. Apparently they contain oil. (at least i hope its just oil)

--All 6 fuses (glass & pico) on PS and 1 on main board check GOOD .

--caps C9A72 & 73 on PS have tops popped slightly, board discolored under them.

--L9A50 & 52  on ps also have discoloring under them, dont know what they are, look like a type of coil (?) looking at the schematics, but i cant test them if i dont know what they are yet !

other than that all looks good in there, only took out PS board so far to check bottom of board. set is only 2 yrs old.

any ideas? im guessing replace conv ic's and bad parts but anything else to check or replace? If you have any info that would help i will send you my addy. Working on the boards is no problem.

thanks for what you do here

Well first off, it is not the

Well first off, it is not the IC's that is leaking the oil. That is coolant dripping out of one or more of the picture tubes. They have O-rings that go bad a lot in these sets. You will need to install a piece of wafer or cardboard to direct the fluid away from the printed circuit board. You will need to wash off the fluid right away also because this will corrode the printed circuit board. Replace any swollen caps, check the coils for continuity as these are chokes and some do run hot. Oh, I almost forget, get some original STK IC's and not the less expensive ones as these are aftermarket or factory rejects. Good Luck

I did think about the pic

I did think about the pic tube leaking before, but all 3 are totally dry. Also ,they are positioned above the plastic case only, in the back, with no way to get to the boards, even checked wires as a path to the board, all dry. The stk's are in the front, both show trace of oil under them if you shine a light the right way, and theres a trail to the back of the set, but stops 6" from the stk's. Hmm.

I will pull the main board off and check closer, still think its the tubes?

Ill take your advice on the stk's, do I still need to replace them or just a good idea? (no burn marks or visual problems  there)   thanks

Well if you do not want to

Well if you do not want to believe someone who has been doing this for 39 years, so be it. I know for a fact, those STK,s do not have oil in them, I have chopped them apart before. Go find out elsewhere if you want to then my friend. I have no other answer to your question except leaky picture tubes. Not STK IC's.

Sorry, Larry, my fault but

Sorry, Larry, my fault but you took that the wrong way, im trying to learn from you here, you da man, thats why i'm here, im not second guessing you at all.  I have been working on TV's for less than a week! Im jealous you can remember all this stuff.

I wasnt implying the stks had oil in them, just describing what I saw, and asking if you were still telling me to replace the STK's as well, as part of my fix for the code 22, along with the caps and chokes (see, thanks to you I know what they are) or are they not involved here at all?

Im sure i will find the source of the tube leak when i pull out the main board, just cant see it yet.

your saving everyone a lot of money here so thank you again

OK Man, no problem. I get

OK Man, no problem. I get feedback all the time, and I just have to say right off the bat, what are you asking if you doubt what I say? I do see your point though also. So really no offense taken. If you have a PDF manual for this and you wish to have further information on the set, please send a copy to [email protected]. We can go from there then. Is this your set, a friends, or something your trying to fix for someone?

?

I sent you a link to dload

I sent you a link to dload the manual good for one more day, since i am on dial up. If you dont download it in time, tell me and I will email it to you.

Its my first big screen.  Bought it almost 2 years ago. My little backup tv here is going on 15 yrs works like a charm, but sure is small ! I took electronics in school, used to etch my own boards etc so im looking foward to working on this set more.

So whats the point? Where the

So whats the point? Where the link man? I have no link here? Doing electronics 20 years ago id good dude but you need solid state repair experience to work on solid state electronics. You need to now how to follow circuit flow by following a schematic diagram, then you can trace each circuit to see where the flow is or where it is not. Can you say you can read a schematic circuit diagram flow? If you say yes i will ask you first if you followed the SMPS and seen what is up and what is down?

I sent the link to your email

I sent the link to your email addy as you asked, since you may not have gotten it I will email the manual itself to you tonight.

I learned schematics in school a long time ago but never learned to follow flow, thats why I need your help.

When I said I was looking foward to working on it I mean physically replacing the parts. Yes its my set. I diddnt think of fixing it myself till I found this forum, which gave me some hope, that is if you are still willing to help me.
