That is what I thought, I plan on getting the two branded IC's and giving it a try, I am pretty good at playing with integrated electronics stuff, especially when I save big bucks.
Any thoughts on where I might find or look for an outside screen replacement for this unit? I have looked on Ebay for a few years, have not seen anything. Just wondering.
I am wondering how the outside plastic screen comes off, I did not see any screws from the outside or on the cabinet bottom, and when I opened up the back and looked up inside the cabinet, I did not see anything that holds it in place, so I am assuming it is held in with some type of clips that hold it to the cabinet. Any thoughts?
Generally, the entire screen assembly comes off from the front of the TV set in the frame and then the clamps hold down the three screens on the inside of the frame. You will need to make sure you assemble the screens just like you took them apart or the set will not show a picture properly. They all must face the exact same way you took them apart.

Covogolf, the plastic screen on mine is velcroed on.

Alright, I replaced the two IC's and everything seemed ok before I turned it on. Checked and double checked the solder job, and cable connections back in.
Below is the changes that appear after change out of both the IC's.
Plugged it in, and put it in test mode, all lines seemed straight, but now I can't get the 4 fine adjustments knobs to move the lines to align the color lines. Does one or more of the 8 cables/wires that connect to that board control the fine alignments knobs on the front of the TV, I would assume so, but I wanted to make sure, I may need to trace the cables to find which one handles the alignments.
Is their possibly something else that I may have missed? I numbered all the 8 connectors and wires, they seem fine, I am just wondering what could be keeping me from being able to fine adjust the 4 buttons on the front of the tv.

Thanks, I will check that as well, if I can get this color alignment straight.
Do you just pry something under the outside plastic cover and pry it off, slowly?
You need to get the service manual and probably do a factory or service alignment now. I doubt if the four controls up front will help you out right now. Where did you get the IC's from? Are they the after market type? Good IC's, you most of the time install them and you need to do really minor adjustments, UNLESS you fooled with the alignments when you had the trouble and tried to correct the problems by trying the adjustments. If the later it true, good luck, you will need to most likely start from scratch.
I am having a convergance issue just like all of you. The picture on my screen is not rectangular anymore but looks like a the edges of the rectangle are bent inwards. How do you reset this. I must admit I have tried to play with the lenses inside without success.

You should replace both of the STK convergence at once.
