Screen Template????

Hello all, I recently changed covergence chips and replaced fluid and cleaned my blue CRT in a Magnavox 51MP392H/17. Have done mechanical convergence and while screen likes 10X better than it did, there are are times when say someones eye, or something small on the screen looks distorted pixel wise. Just a bit, but I would like to do make it better if I can. My service manual calls for a screen template to adjust geometry on this set. Does anyone know where I can find/purchase one? Or an alternative for this 51" set? Thanks in advance... -Drew

What I do is block off the

What I do is block off the red and the blue CRTs and center the green perfectly on the screen and then do each color to the green. It works out better. You also may need to get a service manual and follow the procedure on doing the centering and focusing with the rings on the neck of each CRT. Good Luck

Hmmm, I have the service

Hmmm, I have the service manual and suppose I could just eyeball the green grid, but how would I adjust focus with those rings? The service manual (which I already have) doesnt outline that procedure, or at least I dont beleive it does. Are you referring to the rings for focus, or for centering? I knew you could adjust focus by loosening the wing nut and adjust the omega lens, but wasnt aware of the CRT ring adjustment. Also, if I were to do any adjustment with the CRT rings, is it simply a matter of loosening the hose clamp device? Also, can this adjustment be done while the set is powered up? Or is this a "power it down, ground to dag, adjust, power back up and see where youre at" type of thing? Thanks... -Drew

Look at the centering

Look at the centering adjustments in the service manual. there should be an adjustbent for the beam focus I think? The centering rings should be on the deflection yoke, and there should be another set of rings on the tube. Do not experiment with them if your not sure what they do. Is the manual you have a PDF? Also look inside each tube and make sure you do not see anything floating around inside the coolant, or any distortion or film on the surface of the tube.

Nothing floating around, I

Nothing floating around, I just cleaned and changed the fluid in the green and blue CRT's Blue had the fugus problem bad but went ahead and changed the green as well because I have seen discussion that it may develope it as well. I did score the coupler and made sure that the CRT was placed back into the exact same place on the coupler durring re-assembly. And yes, my manual is PDF, and does mention screen centering by disabling the convergence and centering using the rings on the CRT. However, it does not show a drawing or anything the tells me what exactly what those rings are, or how to loosen, which way to turn, etc. I guess these are thing that a person messing with this is already suppose to know. I may have to take one out and examine it a bit closer to determine what I am messing with. I have also read in past forums where people say you have to cut through the glue holding them in place. I believe when I do take one out, I'll jst take a few pics real quick and may post them here for observation. I believe that I may need to adjust the focus as well on these CRT's. It just seems as though things are not sharp on the screen. Specifically when looking at small things that are in the background. Large things up close to the camera when being filmed are okay, it is just the detail with smaller objects that I am having a problem with. It was not like that when I began to job of cleaning the CRT's, only the discoloration.
