Canon PowerShot S3 IS (6 mp)

We have recently developed resolution issues when we go to print pictures.

My wife has gone to both Shutterfly and Snapfish and gets resolution errors when she selects 4 X 6 or larger images.  The resolution is also poor when we take the SD card to the local processor.

Her camera is set to the high resolution setting (either L- 2816x2112 or M1 - 2272 x 1704) which should give her great 4 x 6's.

Hi Andy,

Hi Andy,

You may want to verify exactly what resolution you're getting with these pictures.  If you're a Windows user, just open one of them up in the "Paint" program (start menu --> accessories --> paint).  Under the "Image" menu in Paint, select the option called "Attributes".  The "Width" and "Height" numbers should show you your resolution.  If the resolution is lower than your L and M1 camera settings, then it would appear that a camera setting is off.

Thanks for the input Chris.

Thanks for the input Chris.

I don't know quite what the problem is, but I think we isolated it to my wife's mac book laptop or her web browser.

Basically, when she downloads the pictures from the camera onto her laptop, the resolution is in line with the L and M1 settings.

Once she uploads the pictures to Snapfish or Shutterfly, the resolution goes way down.  I don't know if somehow her browser (she's tried both safari and ie) is compressing the .jpeg images to that size or what.

We loaded the same pictures to my HP laptop and have had no problems.

Go figure.

Andy,

Andy,

Glad you've got it working on your HP.

There's one other possibility that occurs to me.  I haven't used Snapfish specifically, but some of the photo sharing / photo printing sites I have used have a couple different upload options.  I've seen a couple sites (Walgreens.com comes to mind) that offer a "quick upload" option that reduces the file size to allow for quicker upload (which might be tolerable if you only wanted 4x6 prints).  It might be worth checking your method of upload to Snapfish to make sure it's not down-sizing your files to improve upload times.  Just a thought.

By the way...  LOVE the pumpkin picture!  Did you carve it?
