toshiba 42h82 tv problem

About 2 months ago my tv started to go out. The first 3 inches at the top of the screen was a zig zag pattern. after about 30 minutes on, it would go away. now the whole picture is this way and wont go away. my dvd player appears this way also. All my High Definition channels are good to watch, the pattern doesnt appear on them. Can i fix this myself and if so, how. Any help would be appreciated.      [email protected]

larry i just read the threads and it sounds to me like it would be the hyperboard/scan converter module. can i just unplug the bad one and plug in the new or is it allot if tinkering with small fragile parts. if it is the later, i might want to just take it in for repair, witch i dont want to do, rather than risking any further damage. thanks again!

You most certainly can, but

You most certainly can, but you have to follow directions on taking it out.  There are two metal tabs under side of the chassis that hold on the board and they have to be twisted so they are both inline with the board and then unsoldered.

Hi there, I realize this is a year later then these postings but I am having the same problem as ronn but the link posted by Larry Dillon doesn't work anymore. Would anyone know what the link was and post it again please. Thanks.

Hi Larry, I seem to be having

Hi Larry, I seem to be having the same problem ronn had a year ago. The top portion of my screen, sometimes, has vertical squiggles (about 5 inches or so). It goes away after a few minutes but seems to be getting worse. I opened it up and cleaned everything, the picture looks way better, but it still has squiggles. I'm wondering if the link in the word 'here' that you posted, showed ronn the parts that maybe causing the problem, where in the tv they are located and if I'd be able to fix it myself. Like ronn I'm pretty good at changing out some kind of board, but not expierenced at soldering something small on a circuit or something. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
