Rundown: My Sony TV earlier this week lost all visible red color, and was replaced by black. I removed the front panel and noticed that only the green and blue lamps were working (hence my problem). Surveying the internet offered me no pinpoint (cheap) solution, so I have been bummed all week. Then today I fired up the tube and noticed a redish hue now visible. I removed the front cover again! And to my surprise the RED lamp is now working along with the other 2 lamps. It just seems now that that all the black color has turned to the reddish tone.
So now I am curious to wonder what is going on. Why would the lamp appear to be shot for a week and then come back on now? And mind you, I have been watching the tv without the red for this whole weekl. Is it possible this is just an easy fix worth paying for?
Thanks to anyone who can offer some knowledge.
You could have a bad connection on the picture tube driver board. With the set off, take off the front speaker grill then the wooded cover. Locate where the red picture tube diver board is at the end of the red tube. Now, turn on the TV set and with a wooden spoon or dowel, lightly tap around on the red driver board to see if you can get the tube to flash or go on or off. If you can, most likely you have a simple bad connection on the Driver board. If nothing changes, it COULD be something more seriously wrong with your set and without the proper test equipment, it is best to let a pro have a look at it. Good Luck.
