Service manual or correct procedure for setting convergence in service menu required. SONY KP-41 S4U
I recently purchased this TV for my daughter after a lot of pursuading! However the picture is poor. Looking at the crosshatch grid in convergence service menu it is quite noticible that the convergence is way off. However with all the adjustments GV H-BOW SKEW etc etc I have no idea of where to start and the correct procedure.
Any help on this would be gratefully appreciated and I will have a daughter with a smiling face again.
My e-mail is [email protected]
Many thanks - Dave
Dave, are you sure about the model number man? Or are you not in the United States? I looked up this number in all of my Sony model numbers and I do not find it. Was this set new when you bought it?
Hi sorry should have said, its second hand and bought in the UK.
Oh, Ok that's why i cannot find the service manual or any service Info on it. These sets, or most of them have a different color system as well as the power supply voltages. Maybe someone else here can assist you with this set.
Thanks for trying to help but I actually think I have solved the problem! This after days of trawlling the web for answers and ready to throw the damn thing out the window (if I could lift it)!
The syptoms that I have rectified are as follows
Firstly after a stroke of luck I found it had an auto convergence under the flip down cover above the speaker. This sorted out the ghosting of colours by about 90%, the remaining 10% I sorted by doing it manually in the main menu using the cross to align the colours correctly.
However I still didnt have a sharp picture and the bluish and redish corners were still there. To resolve this I took a gamble and took the front screen off to clean the mirror, lenses and screen, The lenses were filthy and the mirror had a white haze over it, possibly by someone trying to clean it with something unsuitable? As the TV cost nothing (well a couple of pints!) and must be nearly 10 years old I wasn't going to waste mega bucks on appropriate cleaner. I used cheap washing up liquid to do the job after seeing this somewhere on the net.
My only scare was the back of the screen it instantly went white and felt like I was rubbing something off! After a while I got it squeaky clean and sparkling and put everything back together. Took the speaker grill off and unscrewed the wooden cover to fine tune the RGB pots (TV needs to be switched on to view what you are doing). Put this back together and Hey Presto I had a sharp image that looks almost 3D!
Anyway I just thought I would put my solution up just in case anyone else is searching for a similar answer. Just one word of WARNING: If you are going to clean the lenses and mirror yourself on an expensive TV make sure you use the appropriate cleaning fluid!!!
