Repairing glass top for a Clie' TJ27

I recently attempted replacing the glass top (digitizer) on my PDA Clie' TJ27. The problem is that the glass doesn't respond to the stylus now. Is there something I overlooked? The need for repair was the glass got cracked, but the display underneath was fine, so it didn't require a complete screen.

There is a thin plastic film

There is a thin plastic film that barely hovers over the glass, which is what detects the placement and movement of the stylus. If this has been broken or removed, stylus tracking will cease to exist.

So does the new glass come

So does the new glass come with the film or can you re-use the old one? Is that what screen protectors are for? If I am understanding right, it is impossible to replace the glass and have it work, as the film would have to be removed with the old glass in order to replace. If it is possible, how does one get the plastic in place so it will recognize it?

One additional note, I am

One additional note, I am unable to get the unit to power off since changing the glass. The buttons work, just don't respond. Is it possible that a connection is being overlooked? It will power on, but won't power off until after sitting unused, then it goes off on its own, not using the button. I've been attempting this while it is plugged into power, not running on battery.
