Mitsubishi WS-48511 no response to controls

My Mitsubishi WS-48511 all of a sudden is having troubles.  It does not respond to the remote control at all or any of the buttons on the front control panel with the exception of the Power button on the front panel.  I pressed the "system reset" button per the manual but still no response from the remote or front panel.

After the set powers on with the Power button, it scrolls through the preset channels until I press the cancel button on the front panel to stop it on a channel.  Other than that, I have no control functions on the remote or front panel.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Steve

It really sounds like one of

It really sounds like one of the front panel buttons or the remote channel buttons could be stuck.  With the set off depress the two channel buttons on the TV set.  Do they both feel the same when they are pressed.  What I mean is do they both have a tiny click feel to them when you press them?  If not, one of the small tact switches they are called, is bad or stuck.  If these feel good, take out the batteries out of the remote control and see if the channels stop changing.  If it does then the remote has a stuck button inside of it or someone spilled something on the remote and is shorting the remote control.  If none of these things work, you will need to call out a tech to diagnoise this problem..  This could be a microprocessor fault or a control line/data line is being held low from a faulty componet inside the set. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out with this TV.

Larry,

Larry,

I read your advice when I got home.  I took the batteries out of the remote and then pressed the buttons on the front panel as you advised.  They both felt the same.  I then started to press the buttons on the front panel very hard and now things appeared to be working every once in a while.  Next, I sprayed some canned air in between the front panel button cracks while jiggling the buttons around quite forcefully.  The front panel controls now seemed to be working normally.  I then put the batteries back in the remote.  EVERYTHING WORKS AGAIN!

Like most of us, I NEVER use the front panel buttons. I always use the remote control.  Apparently, one of the front panel buttons must have decided to get stuck from "lack of use" Smile.  Thanks to you (and canned air), I probably saved myself hundreds for a service call.

Thanks  a million!

I have a similar problem but

I have a similar problem but a little more complex.  I have a Mits WS-55511.  Purchased in 2003.  Without warning, when we turned it on a few days ago, the red and green images were out of sync.  Remembering the convergence adjustment, I attempted to fix it.  There was some mis-alignment of both blue and red but when I went into the advanced screen and looked at the grid, it was wavy and there was not enough I could do to fix it.

When I exited the setup mode and went back to viewing, I could see that I made no improvement.  I turned off the TV and pressed the system reset.  Then turned the TV on from the front panel (since I was sitting there).  The image was still distorted and now the tuner flips through channels uncontrollably and no longer responds to the remote.  I tried resetting two more times with no change.

I tried spraying canned air around the front panel buttons (as this was a fix from a repair man once before that seem to do the trick with it not turning on) and replaced the remote batteries but there was no improvement.  Any suggestions by Larry or others?  Thanks.

I have a WS-55511 that had a similar problem.  I went ahead and took the front panel off and disconnected the wires to the front panel.  Now, everything is working great via the remote, which is fine with us because that is all we use.  Later, I might buy some compressed air and try clean out the switches.  We very seldom (if at all) ever used the buttons so it has to be dust related in my opnion.  Thanks again for the advice it has been very helpful.  I was very happy this worked because I just barely changed out the convergence IC about a month ago.  Really love the picture quality that the 55511 gives us.

The buttons can get stuck

The buttons can get stuck because of sticky fingers or because the button panel could have warped. I have seen may many things cause this to happen. If you do not need the front panel buttons, and you have a good remote unit, the most cost effective way to repair this would be to disconnect the front buttons from the set.  If any of you all really wish to try and repair the front panel buttons, you will need to know how the front of the set comes apart. I have the factory service manual for this model and it will show you how the front and the rest of the set comes apart. You really should know how to do this anyway as there are lens and mirrors inside this set that when cleaned can make a world of difference with the picture quality. Let me know what e-mail to send it to. Good Luck

I have a Mitsubishi HDTV 1080

I have a Mitsubishi HDTV 1080 Intregrate 52" (model WS 48511) and I changed the convergence and it started working pretty good and I started messing with the colors and the volume and it went out. Now when i press the button to turn it on, the green light will come on for about 6 seconds and it goes right out and the TV never comes on. I have already pressed the reset button, but it still does the same thing. Can you please help me? Thank you!
