Taking one last shot before I give up on trying to fix this Panasonic. I just found this site, I'm hoping I'll have better luck here.
Model: Panasonic PT-53WX42F
Chassis: EP824
Manufactured: May 2002
Here's my symptoms. Press the power button. A few seconds later I get some garbled display/multi colored lines on the screen. The unit turns off and I get 5 blinks on the front power light.
What I've done so far. Replaced both STK IC's. Checked all resistors with a meter. Everything checks out good. I'm handy with a soldering iron so I'm confident the STK's were installed correctly. I have the entire chassis out looking for cold solder joints. BTW, When I power the unit on I can see all CRTs come on. I still have the same symptoms from when I started. Any clues or tips would be helpful.
Just to clarify what comes up when I hit the power button. They look like green zig-zag lines that fill up the entire screen.
Am I the only one that has seen this problem?
I get the five blinks on the front and a feint beeping sound that fades away. However, unlike you, I don't get any activity on the front, no lines, nothing. Just empty screen.
Did more digging on this site with a more generic search. Found a thread from Larry Dillon on a similar unit:
http://www.techlore.com/forum/thread/15888/-Tv-shut-off-by-it-self-/
The problem was on a Panasonic PT47WXC43G Chassis Number AP825. I'm assuming there are similarities between models especially since we're now talking about power supplies.
I will check the power supply stuff as mentioned in the thread. The person in the above thread (buckie) had the same 5 blinks problem. Seems to be a common issue. I have somewhere to focus my attention now at least. Hope this helps. I'll continue to post updates.
The discussion in the other thread on the power supply of a different unit Panasonic HDTV definitely applies to mine. As I figured, the power supply boards are similar enough. I followed Larry's advice on checking the components on the hot side of the power supply. I suspect the Toshiba MOSFET and the Panasonic voltage regulator. I ordered the parts from MCM today and should have them mid of the month (backordered). The MOSFET (Toshiba 2SK2917) was cross referenced to NTE2970. I intend to replace both and see if that takes care of the 5 blinks. Perhaps the cross ref to NTE2970 was due to high failure rates of the Toshiba part. I'll post results when the component repair is completed and tested. BTW, the voltage regulator is Panasonic AN8029. That part was easy to find.
I have the same TV and today when I tried to turn it on in shut itself off and get 3 blinks on the front power light. I have no idea about fixing things myself, but am wondering, IF my unit has a similar problem, how much will it approxiametly cost to get it fixed.
Modfixer: I know its been a while but did you manage to fix the PT-53WX42F that with service code blink (5). Did the NTE2970 work or the AN8029?
Shockmaster:
No joy after the replace. It blew a fuse when I tried to power it up. I'm thinking about throwing in the towel on this unit.
Hi I'm having the same problem with my PT53WX42F. According to what I'm reading it appears that the "convergence chip" went out on mine.
what I need is to find out where can I purchase one and the part number. Thanks- Sal
