I've dug through the Toshiba threads and didn't find any similar issues as mine.
I picked up a used HDTV that needed the 11 capacitors replaced in the DM. I replaced the caps and it's up and running now but the picture is not as clean as I thought it would be. Does this set usually have colors that are washed out and out of focus menu screens? I've tried the 56pt service menu convergence and it helped a little, but I still have the same issues. I also notice faint bowed green and red horizontal lines that are prominent when there is no input or black background (looks like the red and green CRTs and being overdriven). My fear is the guy who owned it before just willy-nilly tweaked service menu settings or adjustment knobs trying to fix the cap problem.
Would new convergence IC's fix the washed out color problem? I'm considering tweaking the electronic focus knobs to see if that helps. Is there a service menu parameter I could tweak to fix the green/red bowed line problem? Any help is much appreciated.
BTW, thanks for the great thread on the cap replace.
Success! My theory proved to be true. Unfortunately, I'm sure the picture is not perfectly calibrated but it's a lot better than what it was. The front 6 knobs (screen & focus) were in fact messed with by the prior owner attempting to fix the picture caused by the bad capacitors in the DM. I'm sure I can get the PQ better with a calibration DVD, just need to find it.
I want to pass on a big thanks to the folks on this forum. It's forums like these that brings a big grin and a feeling of overcoming something that seemed to be a lost cause. It is my hope my success will in turn provide a clue to someone in the future. Thanks to all who have contributed to this forum!
