Good Morning, I have a gentelman that wants me to replace a LCD screen. How hard is it to replace it? I don't know if I want to start doing something like this being fairly new repairing TV's. Someone was playing a video game and punched a small hole into the screen with a video game control. Is it better to have them purchase a new TV or is there an easy way to replace the screen only? I have never done this before and sounds interesting to get into but may be very complicated to change the screen?
It would really all depend on the size and the make and model of the TV/monitor, and the cost of the display panel. In MOST cases, it is not worth the cost of the display panel itself to replace it. Let alone, once you include the labor. I myself have advised the customer to purchase a new set. Good Luck
Thanks for the answer Larry. That has made up my mind. I believe the owner should have the one resposible for the hole pay for a new set. I am still trying though to figure out the Panasonic CT-27G4A, 1999 model mfg. Mexico. I have the circuit board pulled out of the set on my workbench trying to figure out what happened. To begin with I got picture and sound and when moving the circuit board from the rear while in the set a black 2 inch line appeareared on the bottom of the screen. When turning on the set now there is no picture or sound and it only buzzes when pluged in. The picture tube does not light nor is there any sound. Heard a pop at first then caught a short wif of burning smell. I cannot visualy locate any burnt components or burnt circuit board when looking or testing each. When testing everything seems to be okay. Could of missed something. Any sujestions on where to look or test? Thanks for your help and Happy Holliday.
Don't spend too much time on that set. It is full of bad solder connections and the smell is a resistor in the main power supply most likely. If you do not have a schematic on this set, I would not spend a lot more of my time with it. Even if and when you do find the problem, you will for sure run across another one very shortly down the road. Good Luck
Thanks Larry. I'll start out 2008 as not spending much time on this one and probably trash this one. I agree on the circuit board connections that are cracked. When taking lacqure thinner with a brush to it they showed up like a sore thumb. Out with the old and in with the new. Thanks for your help and time. You have been very helpful and Happy Hollidays.
