I have a Sony KV-L34 (34", about 12 years old) - alweays been a great unit.
Today I have started having problems turning it on. Using either the remote or the Standby button on the TV, the standby light goes out and then comes back on again. after a few tries, when I push the standby button, the screen illuminates - a little at first, then sometimes five bands of colour show vertically down the screen briefly before it switches off again and goes back to standby mode. Even if I switch it off using the main switch the problem still occurs. Eventually, after about 30-40 tries, the TV comes on and works fine. Yesterday it worked perfectly well for 6 hours. This morning it worked for about 2 hours, but thgis afternoon it only stays on for a few minutes before switching itself off again.
Any suggestions as to the problem?
Is this a picture tube issue?
Is it economical to even bother trying to have this repaired or am I better off starting to look for a new TV?
Thanks for your assistance.
This could be a picture tube issue or perhaps an issue in the sweep supply. Maybe a bad capacitor in the screen supply voltage source. In my opinion, with a set this old, you would be putting good money into bad, look for a new set. Good Luck and Happy New Year.
