I have an old sony trinitron and my remote won't channel surf to all the stations. I have to key in the numbers. I have tried several remotes and they all do the same.
It sounds like the channel memory was erased. In the menu, look for an option to search all channels. When done, it should stop on all channels you receive.
Can you provide the model number of your TV? I can see if I can look up some directions for your specific model. Or, if you still have the original user manual, you'll find specific directions there.
I am having a quite the same problem with my old Samsung. I have cable from channel 2-13 but above that it's fuzzy. I dont have the original remote but purchased a universal to access the menu and that worked until the options on the menu were useless. Any suggestions?

This is sad. I can't even find the model number on my tv.I have looked everywhere except the bottom. It is so heavy.
Usually the model number is located on a sticker on the back of the TV, but it can also be embedded into the plastic. You have to look carefully.
