Hello all. I have an 8 year old Zenith 27 inch TV. Last night I turned it on, heard sound for a second, then a pop, and the TV went off. I smelt a slight burning. I unplugged it and left it off. Last night was extremely windy here in Wash. DC, with wind gusts up to 50 mph. Thanks for your help.
I seriously doubt that the wind had anything to do with this TV set going bad. It sounds like you have a problem in the sweep power supply or possibly the main power supply. You can go to ptscorp.com, get the telephone number and call them to see how much they will charge you for a rebuilt board, or to repair your board. Problem is, if you cannot replace the board yourself and do all the alignments that will be needed after you replace your old board with a new one, the cost to repair will most likely exceed the cost of a new TV set. Good Luck with this repair.
Thanks. Do you mean the sweep power supply or main power supply inside the TV set?
One last question. What would cause that? I had my house re-wired in September, but everything else has worked fine, and I am thinking that if the re-wiring were going to cause trouble, it would have happened in September. I am also wondering if one of the kids may have spilt something on the TV and did not want to tell me.
The moisture problem could be a problem, but you have to remember, the TV set is 8 years old already and thats a long time for these types of TV sets. If there was a problem with the electrical supply, the problem would have happened when the place was rewired.
So, you think something inside the TV just decided to go bad?
Yes I do unfortunately. These Zenith TV sets are made so the entire board or chassis can be swapped out, but you have to know how to make the different alignments after the board is replaced.
OK, Larry. Thanks so much for your help.
