Well I have a Panasonic PT-47x54 Rear Preojection TV.. Its just about 2.5 years old. THe other day the picture went from good to looking convexed.. The top, bottom and sides are off the screen now..the center of the picture is OK but the sides are messed up. I called the service company and they said its a pincushion circuit...$20.00 for the part, $150 travel labour and $50 an hour, figures in and around $300 to fix it.
You can still do the converge with it, so the lights are moving fine..but the picture is bad... anyone with any ideas? or should I suck it up and have them service it?
I would say that was a good diagnosis, when i read your description that is what came to my mind aswell. It probibly needs fixed, but it may be more than just the pin ic it could be a cap near by as well. So you could try to change the pin ic but it is not a guaranteed fix. Some times when they quote you the part, they leave out the little stuff like fuse links ect that may be gone as well.
OK, so is the pincushion circuit called PIN IC? and is this something I could do? I am mechanically inclined...but...
I can't tell you if you can or can't, but it will require soldering and useing a volt meter, and climing inside a tv with power that can hurt you when it is unplugged. It all depends on how comfortable you feel working around this kind of thing. I don;t have the location number or the part number looked up yet. i would have to pull the manual and research where this is unless someone else here has delt with this problem reciently and still has the location number in his head.
