I am new to the community and after reading some of the posted responses on this problem, I feel I am ready to tackle. Question: Is there a way to troubleshoot the IC boards prior to diving in and replacing them? Should I replace both (from what I have read) or just the one that is defective? How can I determine which one is the culprit? I am mechanically inclined, but is there a manual that will help me with this repair?
Replace both, i have found if you only replace one you usually will have to go back and replace both later. There is no positive way to troubleshoot the ic's you treat an ic as a black box, and check what is going in, with what is going out, and can only make assumptions based on what you see. Unless you have electronic experience and training and the proper equipment it is not feasible. But in this case it is always the ic's or bad solder connections from the pins on the board. This problem is very common.
Is there a component layout diagram showing where the IC's are located? Will a service manual tell me how to properly change?
in the manual yes, but they are pretty big and easy to see, they are on a heat sink toward the back left of the board, the heat sink is very close to you from the back, you can't read the numbers of the ic's from the back because they are pointing away from you. The service manual will not tell you how to properly change them no, the manual assumes you know how to handle this process. It is not like a car manual. the Techniques used to change components are the same across all brands so this is assumed. The manual will show you a picture of the pc board they are on, but you still have to find them on the picture, it will not point them out to you specifically.
Hi can anyone help me i am looking for a pc board for the KP-51WS510, does anyone know where to buy on
I want to thank mathelm for emailing the service manual, but i cannot use pando on my computer can anyone email me the service manual using adobe etc. Sony KP-WS510. My e-mail address is [email protected] Thanks
With the back of the set open there is a vertical board on a plate on the left side. Just to the right is a brown board with two heat sinks (fingers facing me). To the right of that is a green board that sets behind the external connections block. As I look further back and up I see three tubes with boards below each tube and the tubes connecting to the lenses.
The brown board does have a "D" on it and has smaller heat sinks (one on the left side and two on the right. Where would I see the IC's? After I find them, where can I order parts?
If you are trying to find the convrgence ic's looking from the back, there will be two metal heat sinks, with the fins pointing toward you, to the left is a board standing up verticaly, this virtical board is G board, D. board is the one with big heat sinks with the fins on it, connected to the heatsink with the fins are the convergence ic's, the stk's.
You can get the parts from MCMelectronics.com or I use http://www.electronic-repair-kits.com/index.html
I was able to obtain the IC part numbers, but I can not locate numbers for the fuses that have been recommended to be replaced at the same time. Can anyone provide?
I have a KP-WS510 the RED,GREEN AND BLUE ARE OVERLAPPED. The picture looks very funny. I bought a pair of the Covergence IC Chips and replaced them but there still a problem.
I need help!
Any suggestions why replacing the IC chips not resolving the RED issue....I talked this one local TV repairs shop, the guy is charging $$55 just to come to the house to check it....Is it worth to repair the TV or should I trash it?
thank you for your suggestions.
Look forward to hearing for some good news...

WHERE DID YOU GET THE ic's from? Are they the original IC'S?
You should invest in a convergence kit from tvrepairkits.com as it comes with all the right resistors and the proper pico fuses and the detailed replacement Instructions and well as free on-line tech assistance. all original factory authorized parts
