I have a JVC GR-D30US. After hooking up the Firewire to both the comuter and the camera. the computer is NOT picking up the camera. I'm using XP, TI chip IEEE 1394 PCI Firewire card. New Firewire Cable, I've tried running Add hardware and putting it in manually but can't find any drivers to take. I've rebooted many times in different power on/off sequences. NEED HELP on this one. Please advise. Thanks in Advance

JVC GR-D30US Connection problems
Have you verified that both your firewire cable and card work with other devices?
You should only need drivers to connect the camcorder via USB, which your model doesn't support.
You can try to transfer video with Windows Movie Maker 2, so make sure it's running before you connect the camera.
If that doesn't work, you need to install JVC's JLIP 3.1 program to tranfer IEEE video to the computer. You may also want to download Video Producer 2.0. You can download these programs here
You may also want to see if there are any new drivers for your IEEE-1394 card, and install them prior to connecting the camera.
Don't have other devices to try with it. I've tried using he old cable that came with the camera and it still doesn't work. I went out and bought a NEW 1394 Card because my old one was of the VIA chipset and read where it needs the IT Chipset. I'll try the progeams and let you know my progress. Thanks

Well Failure on all software. Can not find device. Tried Movie Make 2.1, and the JVC software that looks ike it asked for serial ports. Keeps telling me a capture device is not detected. Any other ideas???
Thanks in Advance

Did you install the drivers for the IEEE-1394 card?
IEEE-1394 drivers? When I installed the card Windows XP SP2 automaticaly installed them and it shows up in the Device Manager as Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE-1394 Host Controller. If I need to install other drivers where can I find them I've been to the Manufacter and TI but to no luck in getting something to update drivers. Any Recommedations?

No drivers required for your card. I know that doesn't help you, but it was worth a shot.
Have you tried talking to JVC? Not that I expect them to be super helpful, but maybe they know something about your camcorder model that we're overlooking.
yes, and they weren't much help. maybe need to buy a new camera (non-jvc) Something that is a little more standard and has better support.
Thansk for all your help

You know, I just took a look through your manual again. I realized nowhere does it say you can transfer video to a PC using the DV connection. It specifically states you can transfer images (photos), but not video. "It is also possible to transfer still images to a PC with a DV connector by using software equipped with the PC or commercially available software."
for your PC.
However, page 34 talks about digital dubbing to or from another "video unit". That proves the camcorder can send video over DV. Except, it states you have to begin recording on the receiving unit manually.
I'm thinking this camcorder was never designed to tranfer video to a PC, despite the fact it has the IEEE-1394 connector and can do photos in this manner (at least with the D70 and 90 models). If I'm right, you'll either need to get one that can, or pick up a video capture card
I have a JVC GR-D33U Digital Camcorder that has a problem capturing video on my Compaq Presario using a EEE1394 firewire. The camera works great on a Gateway computer, but not on a compaq. Matt sugested loading a JVC, JLip31 for a simelar camera. Where can I find this? Is there any other advise that might solve this problem?
