It sounds like I have a similar problem. I have a slightly different model, KP46WT500. Mine shut itself off and then continues to make a click click sound when I tried to turn it on like it is turning on and off. I had a sony certified technician come out and take a look at the tv and said the d board had to be replaced. The part is approx. $180. I am trying to figure out if it is something I can do myself. Did you ever resolve your problem?

Nope, we have had no luck, we are hoping to take it out here in the spring or summer when we don`t have to worry about the weather, I am sure thinking one of those t.v.`s you can hang on the wall is the way to go easier to take for service..and it won`t be a sony....we should have got more then 16 months use...good luck to you

Hey novice in Ny, I have the same set. that click click click you hear is probably the relays on the D board trying to energize. I work on copiers and am not an expert on tvs but those relays someties go bad and make that sound when they cant close the circut. Larry is really the expert on the subject you should ask him. As for Shedawn... does your set click like that? usually the red light means you have power to the appliance but not the circut to make the rest of the thing work. IF yu can Ohm the fuses on your power supply you might find one of the fuses popped.

What is happening is your set

What is happening is your set is going into shutdown, and it should have a blink code. This code is the reason it shut down, if you don't have a blink code, then the problem is usually on the "D" board, allot of times if you are having "D" board problems that are not related to the convergence, then check the two white ceramic fuses standing off of the "D" board to the middle left of the board. If one of them is open, one of the switch mode ps controller ic's have failed, I am a certified sony technician, i am speaking from my experience with repairing this set. Again i want to say that that this is not a firm fix, because i don't have the tv in front of me. But this is a common failure. If the tech wanted to replace the "D" board that company must only go to the board level repair, some do, i will only perform board level repair if it is in warranty so the tv can get out the door faster, actually sony prefers it that way. but if it is out of warranty, i will component level troubleshoot to save the customer some money. But allot of shops have adopted this board level attitude especially with sony. If i am not mistaken that "D" board is in what sony calls "Phase 3" which means that a board level servicer needs to return it to sony for repair then return, no replacements exist. I am pretty sure that tv is in a "Phase 3" board replacement.
