High-pitched whine on Samsung 1080i HDTV

Hello

This just started 3 days ago. After being on for about 90 minutes, the TV starts emitting a very high-pitched whine -- only on non-HD channels. The whine goes away when the TV is tuned to an HD channel.

I think the TV is about 3 years old. I bought it used, as is, about a year ago from a lab that tested cable TV settop  boxes all day -- so it pretty much ran all day for a couple of years. However, no trouble up until this point.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks, Steve A

You don't have a model, but

You don't have a model, but if it is a dlp it is probably the color wheel.

Thank you, but what is a dlp? I'm unfamiliar with that acronym.

Digital Light Processing, it

Digital Light Processing, it is a completely mechanical process to give you a picture, It is hard to believe but here it is. There is a light bulb generating high intensity light, it is then focused through a part called a color wheel, it is really just a wheel with different colors on it spinning at incredible speeds. next the light passes to an array of microscopic mirrors that have even smaller motors that lean up and back shining one pixel of light on to your screen, the color was determined by the color wheel. I know it sounds fantastically strange but that is what it  is. Give me the model and i will see if it is a dlp.

Thank you, zapdbf. I was curious, so I googled the acronym, and became educated. I'm at work, and don't have access to the TV (so I can get the model number), but I'm confident that I can procede from this point. Sure do appreciate your help.
