Hey Gang,
I've decided that my life is WAY too grown up these days. In a feeble attempt to regain a bit of my youth, I've decided that I need to spend some money on a completely impractical toy. I'm thinking something in a hand-held game system is just what the doctor ordered. I've looked at both the Nintendo DS Lite and the 2nd generation PSP and frankly I'm not sure which direction to go. I wouldn't mind a little web-surfing capability (email, movie showtimes, sports scores), but that's really a secondary priority to me behind a platform that is fun, well-built, and loaded with great game titles.
Anybody care to offer an opinion as to which direction (if either) I should go? Anything great on the horizon that should cause me to wait? Any other platforms beyond PSP and NDS that I should consider?
I have recently purchased a DS lite and am really enjoying it. If your into RPG's, then you should get it just for the fat that it has the only American version (at this time) of Final Fantasy III. That is, unfortunately, the only game I have at this time so I cannot comment on others. As for the system itself; I love it. It is light and easily gripped. The battery life has proven to be excelent in my opinion; I can go for days without charging (about 10-15 hours total, sometimes more). The LCD screens are very clear with vivid colours and have different levels of brightness. I have yet to test out the Wi-Fi, but I am sure that it is great as well. I hope this helps!
Thanks so much for the feedback. I actually went out last night and got a DS lite. I was a little unsure about the whole touch screen / stylus thing at first, but I'm really starting to like it. I picked up the latest Zelda game for it and I'm loving it. I'll definitely have to get my hands on FF3. I've been a big fan of the series (my favorite is still 7). For me, the decision to go with the DS rather than the PSP was all about the games I personally wanted to play. With all my old favorites reworked - Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Super Mario Bros, etc, plus quality RPG's like Final Fantasy, that's where I want to be.
By the way - I totally dig the picture you're using for your avatar. I have 3 ferrets.
Man I'm too late! I personally love my PSP (heck, I'm listening to it now!). The number of different things it can be used for was the selling point for me. My PSP is basically everything BUT my phone (only because I'm too cheep to buy the headset and buy call points from Skype).
I've got nothing against the DS, I just think you get more bang for your buck if you buy a PSP, especially if you get the Daxter entertainment pack (Game, 1GB card, movie, and silver system).
