I have a Samsung pcn5425rx/xaa. One night after a storm, the colors were scrambled on-screen, and no amount of attempting to converge the screen would help. After 30 mins or so of adjusting, the television turned off, and wouldn't completely turn on. (Little green light flashing, but no picture.) The other functions of the tv work just fine. A tech came and looked at it, and gave me an estimate for a "convergence circuit rebuild", which was to cost me $390.00 +tax.
I found what I believe to be the whole convergence module on-line for $71.55.
My question is, would replacing that unit fix my problem? If not, any direction to the right part and where to get it would be fantastic! I got this TV for free (non-functioning) and through another website managed to fix it for $3.50. (Bad fuse.) I'm fairly mechanically inclined.
Thanks, Jessica
Yes Jessica, you could replace the convergence amp board, not the sub board. It really all depends on how bad you messed with the convergence in the beginning, when the IC;s are bad. I have seen professionals have a hard time after a novice had been trying to adjust the service menu because the convergence would not adjust. BAD NEWS Jessica. You would most likely in the the long run, be better off to let the tech do the repair, as you probably adjusted all the on screen controls, and they will be way out of alignment when the new board gets installed, UNLESS you did the smart thing, and did what the service manual recommends? That would be to write down the service menu alignment set numbers before you changed them. There is not default settings I'm afraid with this TV set. Good Luck
Well, I didn't see any alignment set numbers. When I adjusted the convergence, I didn't do anything outside of the basic user menu functions. This set had the "line up the 16 crosses" game. However, Is that the correct part?
No it is not the correct part. it is however the complete convergence board, BUT it does not have the convergence amp IC's on it. You should take out your board and send it to ptscorp.com. They rebuild these boards. Go to ptscorp.com, get the telephone number, and call them. The complete board with everything on it is no longer available as new.
