i have the back off th tv and

i have the back off th tv and i check to see if there were any broken boards etc i also used a tester to make sure it was getting power

There is most likely a very

There is most likely a very small crack around the high voltage transformer called the flyback. This has a lot of high voltage around it, so experimenting around this circuit is not a good idea. There is way to much voltage in this circuit. Is it worth saving a few bucks at the risk of dying?  If you have no TV repair experience, I highly advise you to call in a trained tech to have a look. They should be able to diagnose the problem without too much difficulty. Good Luck

thank you for posting Larry

thank you for posting Larry but can i ask a question or two? i appreciate all the information

1 if there a lamp out would it come on

2 do u mean on the circuit board

Larry Dillon
These sets do not have lamps.

These sets do not have lamps. They have three picture tubes, and yes the set would work if one was broken. And yes I mean on the printed circuit board. This set is also very common for the high voltage splitter to be bad. To check this, pull off the front speaker grill on the front of the TV set. Then take off the wooded cover. You will see a black box with a lot of wires attached to it. Pull off the larger wire with the red connector, and let it hang some where away from the circuit boards or chassis. Turn the set on. If the sound comes on, turn off the set and replace the High voltage splitter, if the sound does not come on, look for a cracked printed circuit board.

If you do not have a service

If you do not have a service manual, do not mess with it then. It is suppose to come out of the distribution block.

well i did what u said with

well i did what u said with the red wire and it still did click on

but i checked the fuse and as far as i'm concerned it looks good

so i was told to wrap it in tin foil and place it back and they said if fuse was bad it will make it work

but when i did that the clickink noise stop when i plug it in

so i took the foil off and put it back in and the clicking sound worked again

Larry Dillon
Who in their right mind told

Who in their right mind told you to wrap a fuse in foil !!!???  That is such a dumb thing to tell you my friend!  You are sooo lucky that there was not a short in the set, as if there was, you could have started the set on fire or possibly blew it up.  It is silly things like this that stops me from helping anyone who does not know how silly and how dangerous that was to do. I am afraid I want no part of this repair, and highly advise you to call in a trained tech to assist you in this repair. Please you do not know what you are doing. Get some help!  You cannot learn what takes skilled technicians years to master in a week or so.
