Mitsubishi VS-5052 no picture has sound

I have a Mitsubishi Big Screen TV Model VS-5052. I am out of state for three weeks and the wife advised the picture on the tv no longer turns on.  The sound does work.  I have attempted to find the replacement bulb number for this model tv and have been unable to locate one.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to burst your bubble my

Sorry to burst your bubble my friend, but this set does not use a bulb. It uses three picture tubes. Your problem is most likely in the vertical sweep circuit.  This is a protection  built into projection TV set when they lose the vertical sweep so the three picture tubes do not get burn lines in the face of them.  This problem is a bad b+ supply capacitor that feeds the voltage to the vertical IC in the sweep power supply, and or the vertical IC could have gone bad.  If the vertical is working, you may have a video problem.  This is not a repair for the novice I'm afraid. If you have no solid state repair experience, play it safe and call out an authorized repair shop to assist you in this repair. Good Luck

Larry,

Larry,

Thanks for the quick reply. As I started to do more reading I was thinking it wasn't going to be as simple as changing a lamp.  I have had this tv for 12 years and have done nothing but clean it. In your expert opinion would a set this old be worth repairing or would it cost more then the set is worth? Also, is this a repair they could do at the house or would they have to take the tv to shop to repair. I live in a small city in a remote area of Arizona so my choice of repairs shops will be very limited.  Thanks again for the assistance.

A set this old is time to retire I'm afraid. If you need any specialized parts like a flyback or a transformer, it will not be available. A set this age belongs in the landfill I'm afraid. Happy shopping :>)

I really appreciate your

I really appreciate your replies and information.  I will start looking at information on new sets. I really have no idea what I even what to replace it with.   It's worked great for 12 years.. why did it crap out now?  LOL.... Thanks again.  You have a great site here.. I'll be doing alot of reading in the next two weeks.

Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks for the kind words. These TV sets were built to last in those days. Unfortunately, I do not expect the new sets to last that long in my opinion. they are simply not built as well as they used to be. The problem you most likely have with the TV set is dried out capacitors. Take a look at the LCD sets compared to a plasma type TV set. Also the DLP projection TV sets are pretty good also. If I had to chose, I would pick out a plasma then a DLP set.

Larry,

Larry,

I'm confused on what you're saying between the LCD and the plasma tv's.   Are you recommending the LCD over the plasma or plasma over LCD?  I need a tv that will not show much reflection as the room the tv is in has a lot of windows and I get reflection on the screen where the tv sits.   In what order would you purchase for my needs...I haven't looked at new sets in years and have just started reading on the new sets in the last couple of days.  Your expert opinion is greatly appreciated.

If you have a lot of light

If you have a lot of light coming into the room, you will get a reflection on the surface of any TV set, as they all have a smooth plastic screen. I prefer the Plasma over the LCD sets, but that's only my opinion

Thanks for the quick reply. I

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm flying into Vegas when I go home.  I will just stay a day or two and do some shopping there as I have only one televison store and a Walmart to pick from at home.  Thanks again for all your help.

I have been given a Mitsubishi VS-5052 projection tv with the original remote. I was told the remote was working but hasn't worked for me since I got it. Changed batteries, still the only thing the remote does is the volume control. Is it possible to get another remote for this tv? or would a universal remote work?
