sony l.c.d. flat screen t.v.

Hi everyone!  We recently purchased a 40" l.c.d. flat screen sony television. It has a great picture except for one area we noticed that is in the bottom right of the screen. On certain scenes of a program you can see dark blotchy spots. These are more noticeable when the screen is light or there are flesh tones. We called Sony and they said to try wiping the screen with a soft damp cloth in a mild soap solution. This didn't help. It is one of those things that is no huge deal, but now that we've noticed it, the eye searches for the blemish. My husband says he still sees the smudging when the tv is not (in certain lights), although I can't see it. The tv was a floor model so I purchsed the 5=year warranty. I've been told that if the screen is defective that the warranty is void. If this is true, how much does it cost to have the screen repaired, and is there anything on the market that will clean the l.c.d. screen? It is a direct view screen. I called the dealer, and am waiting to hear from the service tech, but they said it would be at least 3 business days. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Well, without a model number,

Well, without a model number, it is really  hard  to assist you with this problem. My Tara cards are not working this week. Also  my crystal ball is in the shop. If you need assistance with this problem, please include a full model number of the TV set. Great though you have an extended warranty. As with the screen thing, I think they are trying to scare you off, as if this is a LCD projection TV set, there is a different set of rules. What they mean by this is that if the viewing screen is damaged, there is no warranty on this type of cosmetic damage. If this is the case, it sounds like the light engine could have a problem, and this would for sure be a covered repair. Again, without knowing what type and model of set, I cannot assist you.

Yep, this is most likely a bad LCD panel you have in your TV set. It really should be a covered repair. This panel cost anywhere from $952 bucks, all the way up to a whooping $2295.99 from Sony. Good Luck

Thanks much for all your help

Thanks much for all your help. I'm really happy with the tv other than that one issue. We are actually thinking of putting this one in the bedroom and getting another, bigger model. Is Sony a good brand? Or do you suggest something different?  Again, Thanks for your help!

Sony TVs are good for an LCD

Sony TVs are good for an LCD TV set. I personally would go for a Pioneer or Hitachi Plasma TV set.
