My five year old Sony Television has a constant picture "blinking" problem. I have heard of the "loose connections", "bad picture tube", "needs a wack", and "adjusting a dial or wheel at the back of the set" solutions as possible fixes. Are they for real or do I actually need to buy a new set?

Really depends on the model number what can be done. Some sets you can lower the screen control and get a little more time out of the set, but that's only a bandaid. The picture tubes on most Sony TV sets bad or on there way out when you have these symptom. If you can hit the set, and I do not recommend that what so ever, then there is a bad solder connection or plug connection inside on the board. Good Luck
Larry,
Thanks for your comments. That's about what I expected.
