Larry,
had my set diag with shorted blue crt. new one is $150 plus installation, alignment.
do U recommend trying to zap the orig blue crt to try to fix it first ?
Also - seems as if I fix the blue one - won't the green or red on be next ?
After researching this it looks like SONY made bad crt for HW40 and WS550 sets ?
Please give me your 2 cents worth - wandering whether this set is worth it. Thanks, John
If you can find the tubes have them put in, for that cost! If they are rebulds, forget it. Landfill the set, count your loses, and buy a new set. Good Luck
I posted that the tubes can be purchased new for $146 but then then coils have to be installed off the old ones, realigned and the set calibrated for additional cost. probable around $400 total.
Are the newer SONY sets (like ws550 series) the same crts (and problems) ? Also what are the differences in these sets versus mine. Thanks, John
The WS500 sets are no longer available I'm afraid, unless you get a used one.
Thats what I am looking at - buying a used kp57ws550 set. Do U know anything about these sets ? Are they the same tubes or these better units than the wh40 series ? Thanks, John
searched partsselect.com and see that there are different part numbers for the crts. could be different parts thou - can't tell. I told U the wrong set model # Te one I'm looking at is kdp57ws550. I'm going to call sony and ask them about this.
