HDMI Upconvert DVD Player on old TV with RF Modulator

I  recently bought a new RCA DVD player ... HDMI, upconvert, etc., and I have an old school TV set with only a coax connect.  So I bought an RF modulator to connect.  Some DVDs work just fine, but the majority skip.  I lose sound and picture, the disk advances and then picks up again.  This happens throughout the entire DVD....I actually endured it once.  It will go one or two minutes before it stops instantaneously...this lasts for anywhere from ca. 10 secs to 2 mins.  I thought it was DVD player so exchanged it.  Bought another one, another brand.  Same problem.  Is it the TV or RF mod?  Or is it the the DVD player is "too high-tech" for the antique set up?

That's certainly an odd

That's certainly an odd problem, but I can't imagine it has anything to do with the TV or the modulator. You'll need toput on your troubleshooting hat to start narrowing it down, but my money is on the player or the discs you're trying to play.

First thing's first, let's remove the TV and RF modulator for sure. Drag the player to another TV with line-level inputs and run a disc. If the same thing keeps happening, then it's not the TV or the modulator.

Next, try a few different DVDs. If you're using discs you burnt yourself, make sure you try a commercial DVD that is in perfect condition. If the same thing keeps happening on many different discs, then it's the player.  Return the DVD player, and grab one of another make. Perhaps RCA has some problems there they need to work out.

Post back with what you discover.
