I wonder if anyone can help me? I've had this Sony DVD recorder for 9 months and it has started switching itself off for no reason! Very annoying as the TV and amp are connected to it! If I switch it back on but 5 mins later it switches back off. I took it back to where I bought it and they sent it to a local repair centre who told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it and that it might be because I don't have a digital aeriel (which I do by the way!) and that these machines do this if they experience any sort of glitch. A bit strange when it switches off during CD playing aswell!? I find all this very hard to believe and feel I'm getting fobbed off!
Had anyone any ideas or info that would help me out?

Does the amp stay on? If it does, try plugging the DVD recorder into another power source.
The amp does stay on yes.
Check this though............I left a mail with Sony Europe last week and they got back to me yesterday saying that there is a known software glitch with this model and tuning into channel 71 BBC CBeebies will upgrade the software and cure the problem over the air! I've got to leave it on this channel until Thursday.....so far it hasn't switched off! Fingers crossed.
I can confirm that this upgrade has worked!
I will be getting back to the retailer I bought the kit from and asking why I had to go to Sony myself for this info.
