If the cassette was forced

If the cassette was forced into the compartment and again forced closed, there are most likely broken parts.  This is not the easiest repair, even when there are no broken parts.  Canon does not proviude service manuals for anyuone but their service centers.    Without seeing the actual piece it it hard to say for sure, but I'd recommend that you take the camera to an authorized service center for an evaluation.

I have seen a few lucky ones

I have seen a few lucky ones that did not have any broken parts, only broken cassette.  Try this first.  Take off the battery for a few minutes.  Insert the battery, then at the same time push the eject button along with the power button and see if this will eject the tape, as the camcorder should want to reset.  If this does not work, you will have to follow Dan's advice.  Good Luck, and let us know what it took to get this camcorder to work.
