Convergence problem and picture looks curved. It use to self correct by turning set off and on, but no more. Manual says go to screen and #6 Adjust rear projection screen...I have no #6..I,m assuming there is a self adjusting componet or I'm thinking of replacing convergence board, if I knew what board that is..Any help out there...plan 3 would be the trash pile...but I hate being beat by a TV.
I have same problem on 52" model# 52gw945. convergence problems and it curves from top and bottom.let me know of any solutions, [email protected]

I have a Philips Magnavox rear projection. The convergence is on the small signal board. But before replacing any boards, call a tech to adjust it for you. These boards are very expensive and you will pay much less for the tech to come out. This is the best advise I can give you. I have been through the wringer with my set in the last 4 months and have learned a lot during the process.
I have a GE 46" GW948 YX2 Projection set that is 6 years old. TV would not turn on the other day so I removed the rear panel and replaced the burnt fuse next to power cord. I also vacumed up a bunch of dust that was inside the cabinet and cleaned the colored lenses. When I powered up the tv the picture was distorted, curved down at the top and curved up at the bottom and out of focus. There are 3 seperate images of the channel displayed on screen. (Green, Red, and Blue) Is there an adjustment to bring these colors back together and straighten the picture? Thanx Bodoc
Bodoc, you will need to replace the two convergence ICs in this set. or there is a power supply issue. no real way to tell untill you get the service manual and troubleshoot this set. What is the complete model number. I do not see this number in the list.
Thanx for your quick reply Larry, The complete mod # is: GE46GW948YX2
The power fuse blew when my wife changed the cable wire from the cable box to the tv set.
Im not a television technician so I dont know what a convergence IC is, maybe I need to call a GE repairman, if so thanx for your advice. Bodoc
If you have no printed circuit board experience, yes play it safe and call out a tech to assist you in this repair. Smart move! Good Luck, and let us know what it took to get your set working correctly again.
I had the tv repaired by an experienced tech. He replaced 1 convergence IC (STK 730-130). He said this particular model has only 1 convergence IC. After a few convergence adjustments from the screen menu the set is now working like a champ! Thanx for steering me in the right direction! Bodoc
Glad to hear you had the set fixed and it is working fine. I forgot about the single package they have in this chassis. Thanks for the update.
