"cable not connected" message

while watching tv today my 26in protron LCD-HD suddenly lost video and the message "cable not connected" was displayed on the screen although I still had audio. I called the cable company thinking it was a cable issue but after trying several remedies the cable company suggested it must be a television problem. I can not find any troubleshooting info at the company's website.  Any ideas anyone?   Thanks.

If you have another TV set,

If you have another TV set, hook it up to the cable line to verify it's functioning.  If that checks out, if your LCD has multiple antennae inputs, make sure you're set to the one the cable's hooked to. If that's not it it's time for the service guy.  Hope you can find someone to work on that brand.

There's something not right

There's something not right here.  If the message was "cable not connected", then there should have been no sound or video.  If the connection was thru the "f" connector, then neither should have been working.  If you got sound, then there is another problem.  Usually, the message is displayed if there is no signal detected at the "f" connector.  Can you provide more details?  Also, it the brand Proton?  What is the model number?

Thanks Dan for your reply- the only other details I can offer is the "model name" is LT 26C1P1 and the model number is PLTV-26. It is a PROTRON flat screen HD-LCD which I purchased through ShopNBC. I still do not quite understand how the loss of video could happen so suddenly and without any apparent reason!  All of the connections appear to be tight and although I am not  electronically savy, such a "catastrophic" loss of video would seem to me as you stated that  something is not right. I even changed the red, blue and green connection wires thinking there might be a broken wire or something but the result was the same so it was not the wire connections.  Thanks for any other advice you can offer!!
