Hi,
I have a Sony Trinitron TV set that keeps popping up with the Initial set up window. Even if I press the channel set up button and it goes thru its paces, the window keeps popping up. I have unplugged everything thinking it will reset itself, but no success. I have a DVR/Satellite dish hooked up to the TV as well, but it's been this way for 5 years, so that couldn't be the problem. Sony says that the window will pop up if there has been a loss of power and that has been happening a lot lately due to our unstable weather and if the window won't go away after I do the channel set up, it will need repair.
Just to have the repair man come out and tell me how much it will cost to fix it, is 90 bucks. All I need to know is how much this will cost to repair since I can get a new LCD HDTV for 600 dollars and if the repair is expensive I'd rather get a new one. Does anyone have any experience with the cost of this type of repair?
Thanks!
LOL, I will need more info, as there are literally 1000's of Sony TV set models. And does this set up menu pop up while your watching TV? Or is it only when you turn on the TV set?
Hi Larry,
Thanks so much for replying. Here is some more info. The model number is KV-32FS100. The menu pops up while I'm watching TV and the only way to take it off is to press the volume up or down key on the TV remote itself. The satellite dish remote used to take care of the this, but for some reason doesn't do it anymore.
Thanks!
I need to ask you how much experience do you have troubleshooting or repairing solid state printed circuit boards and how much circuit theory do you know?
Hi Larry,
Unfortjunately I do not have any knowledge of the aforementioned whatsoever! But tell me, if this is the issue, what am I looking at in terms of layout of money for a service tech to come out. Is this an easy fix for them and is it even worth it? As I mentioned before, I can buy a new set for 300 bucks or an LCD for 600.
ok, no problem. the problem you are having is most likely the remote sensor, the buttons on the front of the TV set are stuck, jamed or shorting out, or possibly a problem with the microprocessor. First and the most easy thing to do would be to remove the batteries from the remote. I mean who knows? I have seen silly things like this in the past cause these types of strange problems. Or if there is a big clean freak in your house that as in the past, sprayed the front of the TV set with cleaner, as this will leak down the front of the TV set and will cause the switches in the front of the TV set to go bad. To corrode. It is a hard thing with a problem like this to estimate a repair without looking at the set. I would think a set like this though would be worth taking into a repair shop for an estimate. the price you gave for an estimate is way to high!. Call an authorized Sony repair shop and see what it would cost if you brought the set to them. Good Luck, and let us know what it took to repair your TV set.
Hello Larry,
Thanks for the tips. I took out the batteries out of both remotes first and replaced them, but that didn't fix anything. As for the clean freak; I only spray the windex on the cloth first and not on the screen, so that isn't it either.
I'll do what you suggested and find a repair shop.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
