Just replace convergence IC's but cannot adjust red horizontally on Sony KP-57WS500

I just replaced the Convergence STK's and was able to align the green and blue perfectly using the Service menu.  However, I cannot adjust the red horizontally at all.  Neither the CENTer nor SIZE functions seem to make a difference at all.  It's very strange... Any ideas?  Thanks!

Solved it by myself.  If

Solved it by myself.  If anybody else has this problem, you want to look at the Circuit Protectors (basically a fuse) underneath the heat sinks.  They are small yellow components, look like resistors.  One was blown, there is one for each of the Horizontal / Vertical adjustments on each of the three colors.  Good luck!!

Good for you mbrown2, But if

Good for you mbrown2, But if you have read the threads about the Sony convergence IC's you would have seen that it is always reccommended to check the circuit protectectors.  Oh maybe that is what you did?  Just got back from camping so i could not answer you.  My wife would not let me bring a computer with me and she took away my cell phone.  Glad you figured it out.

Ya, those significant others

Ya, those significant others can be pesky! Haha, i recently went camping as well and was not allowed to use any electronic device for the week.  Ha.  I did check all the circuit protectors but I didnt test the right contacts on that one in particular, i hit the resistor right next to it.  Whoops.  I'm glad it's working now.  Would reducing the heat in the TV make those components last longer?  I have some awesome whisper fans I was thinking about installing in the backing.  Would it make a big enough difference to make it worth it?  Thanks!

A cooling fan aimed at the

A cooling fan aimed at the heat sink that the IC's are mounted on is a good idea to dissipate the heat from the IC's. One more thing, before you installed the new IC's, Did you install whats called heatsink compound on the backs of the new convergence IC's before you installed them?

recjunkie
Would that make the IC's last

Would that make the IC's last longer in your opinion?  and yes, I definately did use heat sink compound.  arctic silver, only the best for the brand new ic's haha.  Is there any other components that would benefit from a good fan flow?

Larry Dillon
Not really, Keep the heatsink

Not really, Keep the heatsink cooler and you should be in great shap.  Good job, by the way. with the repair of your convergence problem.

Thanks again! you've been a HUGE help! I used most of your previous forum requests to solve my problem.  Thanks!

Ahh! One last question.

Ahh! One last question.  Where would be the best place to solder into to control the relay for my fans?

recjunkie
Can i feed it off one of the

Can i feed it off one of the relays so that the fans turn on when the TV flips on?  It would be a very slight drain on the circuit I would imagine.

I have a sony kp61hs30 where

I have a sony kp61hs30 where I replaced both ic's, 1 5 amp pico fuse on the g board and one 3.15 amp pico fuse on the D board. I am unable to do horizontal alignment in the service menu and one of the heat syncs is not getting hot. any suggestions if that is the cause of not being able to ajust horizontally and why the heat sync is not getting hot? Is is a problem on the g board or d board.

Larry Dillon
well I would check the two

well I would check the two fuses on the G board as they both are suppose to be 5 amp so the 1.5 would for sure blow again!!

Jeff S
Sorry not to be clear, but I

Sorry not to be clear, but I replaced one of the 5amp pico fuses on the g board. I am having this bowing towards the middle of the screen where the Red is the most bowed. I am unable to adjust the Horizontal on all 3 colors. As I stated, I am thinking that one of the IC's is not getting power as the heat sync is not hot after the tv has been on for a bit. not sure if that is good or bad. The other IC does gets hot so I am assumming it is getting voltage. When I say hot I can still touch the heat sync.

Larry Dillon
replace both of the picos on

replace both of the picos on the G board! with only 5amp pico fuses and double check your soldering on both IC's

Jeff S
Replaced both 5amp pico fuses

Replaced both 5amp pico fuses on the g board and checked all of the soldering, but still there is a bowing effect for the red . The IC that does not get hot looks to be for the red and green but I am not sure. if you are looking at the d circuit board from the top it is the right IC. also, I replaced one of the middle 3.15 amp pico fuse for that IC as it was bad. Still cant adjust horizontally, but can adjust vertically and it looks as though I cant adjust Red at all.

Any suggestions.

Larry Dillon
double check every plug

double check every plug/connector by hand and make triple sure that there are none half way out or one side pulled up

Jeff S
I have checked all

I have checked all connections, verified soldering and still no luck. What I cannot understand is that the power from the G board is getting to one of the IC's since the heat sync is getting hot. I know that the +22/-22 volts is on the same circuit for both IC's. The IC that is not adjusting is of course the red one. Not sure if even though I replace the IC there is still a problem with the IC.

Larry Dillon
Measure the plus and minus

Measure the plus and minus voltage on BOTH sides of the pico fuses on the G board and make sure the voltages are are there on both sides if not replace the one where the voltage is missing on one side, if the voltage is there here are a few more things to test also where did you get the STK IC's from???
D Board
IC8002
Green Horizontal Pico ( Pico PS8002 )
Blue Horizontal ( Pico PS8004 )
Blue Vertical ( Pico PS8006 )
Coils (L8005) -22V
Coils (L8004) +22V
IC8001
Green Vertical ( Pico PS8005 )
Red Horizontal ( Pico PS8001 )
Red Vertical ( Pico PS8003 )
Coils ( L8008 ) -22V
Coils ( L8007 ) +22V
STK IC Voltages
1 = ground
2 = 4.3
4 = -22V
5 = +22V
8 = -22
10 = +22
12 = -22
17 = -22
G Board
PS5002 ( 5AMP Pico ) >> L5009 ( Coil ) >>> To D Board +22V
PS5001 ( 5AMP Pico ) >> L5008 ( Coil ) >>> To D Board -22V

I got the IC's from

I got the IC's from tvrepairkits.com. One question though about measuring the voltage. Since I have put the boards back in, what is the best way to measure as the components are not that accessible such as the IC pins are below the heat syncs.

Larry Dillon
OK then we know the problem

OK then we know the problem is not the STK IC"S THEN!!! IN a lot of sets you need to flip over the printed circuit board to measure certain points but chech all the coils and resistors, picos for voltage on both sides

i have a Sony kp53xbr35 rp tv

i have a Sony kp53xbr35 rp tv, the problem is that i turn it on the lights begin to turn on. the screen turns blue to blue green then red and the tv shuts off. i can still get sound but no picture. the timer/stand by light light blinks 12 times does any one know the code for the twelve lights. also recently the convergance was all messed up it bowed in the middle and the colors would not line up. i know the convergance ics need replaced but would that make the tv power off? does any one know how to fix thanks.

Larry Dillon
the color turning from one to

the color turning from one to the other might be a normal start up scheme. I have seen some new sets do that but the shutting off sounds like there might be a power supply problem. or a sweep problem. not too sure about this set sorry.

i think i might have the same

i think i might have the same problem where i am getting the red lines and the red shadows and think its the convergence

I replaced the two stk

I replaced the two stk convergence chips and the two fuses on the G board. I can adjust all colors but not in the corners. The screen now is curved in from the top and bottom. The tv is a sony kp57-ws500. Any suggestions?
