Magnavox Rear-Projection convergence problem - HELP!

I have a Magnavox Rear projection (model no. 51MP392H/17 ) and after 2 years of smooth sailing, the convergence went bananas. It wasn't something that looked terrible, just the blue at first was skewing at the top of the screen and on hard edges.

Well, 2 days ago the red starting doing it, so now it looks like everything is in 3-D! The manual convergence settings from the on-screen menu doesn't do squat and I've called around to the places that service PTV's and most of them say they don't to Magnavox! The one guy that did offer some info, said that it sounded like the convergence circuitry was bad and require replacement that would cost anywhere from $300 to $600!!!

Is there a "do it youself" option here?  Any advice/comments are welcome. Thanks!

If your good with a sodering

If your good with a sodering gun and know how to work on printed circuit board, yes you can change the IC's your self for about 50 or so bucks, but if you have no solid state repair experience, I highly advise you to call a pro to assist you with this repair.  You will need to get a service manual, the IC,s and then after that you would need to put the TV set into the service mode and make the necassary alighnments to the set as well as the convergence circuit. Good Luck And let us know how you made out with this repair.

OK, the IC's have been replaced and still the red will not converge up or down - just left to right...this occurs in both the USER MENU and the SERVICE MENU MODE for bother CONVERGENCE and GEOMETRY changes.

I can't figure out what the heck is going on. If I could get the red convergence to align up and down, I'm pretty certain that I can fix the "bowing" geometry problem.  I can post pics of what it looks like, but i think it's pretty obvious what's happening. Any ideas on what else could be wrong?

Yes I'm afraid that when the

Yes I'm afraid that when the IC(s) blew out, it took a resistor or pico fuse out with it and you will now most likely need the service manual so you can check the voltages on the convergence IC's.

Bleh!!!!  Finding a service

Bleh!!!!  Finding a service menu for free on the net is like looking for the holy grail!!!!

Larry - any good resources

Larry - any good resources for the service manual that doesn't require pulling my pants down and bending over?  Trying to keep the expense on repairs as low as possible....naturally.

What make? what model? what

What make? what model? what chassis number, if shown on the back label?
What is the calibration problem with the blues and reds? What adjustments have been done?

If you are asking about gray scale adjustment on a Mag 51MP392H/17

the service/training and training manuals are in the downloads section, philips DPTV300 series chassis. On this series crt coolant contamination is a possibility.
