Sony KV-36FS100 FD Trinitron

I have a 36 inch Sony CRT.  None of the controls will function, not the remote or push buttons.  I contacted an authorized Sony repair shop who told me there is a service bulletin out on this series of TV sets because oxidation on the aluminum switches causes this malfunction.  He further said the only guaranteed repair is to replace the circuit board but the boards are no longer available.  He further said he could obtain a set of the push button switches and replace all of them to see if that will cure the problem.  The TV set is about 5 years old, and, except for this control problem seems to be OK.  Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem and does the repair guy's over the phone diagnosis seem accurate?  BTW the repair shop does not sell new TVs and he has not been trying to have me replace the set.

Make sure first that all of

Make sure first that all of the buttons on the TV set are not pushed in or stuck.  Press each on of them and see if any of them feel differantly then the rest.  Yes these tact swiches do go bad and is a problem in this set sometimes.  The replacement of the switches should take care of the problem you are having unless the buttons are stuck.  als have you tryed to unplug the TV set for several hours yet?  If not try that before you have the switches replaced Good Luck and let us know how this repair turns out.
